About me

Hi! I’m Iya — an illustrator, children’s book lover, and slightly obsessed collector of beautiful illustrated books (I’ve stopped pretending I’ll run out of space). I work in publishing, concept art, and art direction, but my favorite thing is creating cozy, whimsical (and sometimes a little spooky) illustrations for children’s books. I love switching between gouache, watercolor, and my iPad — depending on whether I feel like making a mess or keeping things clean. When I’m not drawing, I’m probably watching old movies, eating gelato, traveling, or wandering around cute streets and bookstores. I’m always happy to meet new people — for coffee, a walk, a museum visit, or just a good conversation about art, life, or slightly weird stories. Also, I’m a big animal person, so if you have a dog (or any fluffy creature), we’re already friends.

About me

Hi! I'm Alice Maia, 🌊I've lived in Genova all my life and I love meeting new people. I will gladly chaperone you around🚶🏻‍♀️whenever I'm available, give indications and eventually host🛌🏻 if it's possible for me and my family. I really enjoy meeting new people from all around the world and chatting💬 about literally everything. Also I have cats! Putting it here because I keep forgetting people I host might be allergic😅 🎯I love travelling solo, although I don't often get the chance. I'm very interested in knowing how other people experience life, I like to know what you think of my culture and my city, and I will probably ask a lot about yours too, if you agree to! Basically I love sharing stories, ideas and everything else!🗣️ I feel like travelling and making friends should be for everyone, so feel free to contact me if you have any particular concern (e.g. you have a disability, are part of a minority and are concerned about your safety etc) Among other things, here's a few of my interests! - I study Environmental Sciences🌍🌎🌏 - I'm a climate justice activist📢 - I love volunteering as a Scout Leader in one of our local groups⚜️ I've been a scout all my life since I was 8 and I love this world, so if we share this experience let's talk about it! I know it can be very different being a scout around the world:) Other things that might be interesting: - I try to live as sustainably as possible, including following a vegetarian or vegan diet🧆 - I have a chronic illness that means my energy levels can vary a lot from one day to the other, so I'll need to plan anything carefully to be sure I can make it through the day🔋 - I'm neurodivergent🧠 - I'm all about inclusion and accessibility, so feel free to tell me about any of your needs or boundaries!🫂

Is Italy safe for female travelers?

Catania, Solo travel

Catania is a beautiful place with many gorgeous things to see. The ocean is fantastic and there is lots of wonderful food to be found. One thing to know though, the streets are full of men and I was catcalled a lot. Not many women or children out in the streets but the city centre is still pretty safe.
