Catcalling and states are unfortunately all too common. That said, nothing serious has ever happened to me and I’ve always felt fairly safe. If you’re a solo traveller, please be aware of men and remain in public and well lit areas.
Posted: May 4, 2025I am not sure how to start this, I really like the city I live in, safety can be tricky you are never sure when could it happen to you too. I always make sure to be careful, watching my hand bag, checking everything and who is around me and nothing ever bad happened to me. At most just mean people and very very homophobic
Posted: April 29, 2025In my opinion it's considerably safe, especially the island. Even at night I don't feel uncomfortable walking home late and alone. Fortunately, I haven't experienced anything worse than catcalling. 🩷🩷

Venice is for the most part a safe city, since at night noone, literally no one is around you can feel pretty safe but then again if you meet someone it's just the two of you so it can be scary from this point of view. Just be careful and bring pepper spray with you but usually Venice street at night are empty. Just avoid Mestre city (the land, Venice is the island), Mestre can be very dangerous if you're staying there in an hotel to sleep, be very carefull, many of my friends there have been harassed.
Posted: March 28, 2025For the first in my entire life I’m living in a city where I totally feel safe. Since I live here I’ve never experienced bad situations. I usually walk at night alone listening to music and I’m not worried.
Posted: February 6, 2025Venice is one of the safest cities in Italy. The city structure makes it less prone to typical urban crimes. However perty crimes such as pickpocketing can occur, especialmy in crowded areas like piazza san marco
Posted: January 26, 2025Venice is not only gorgeous, at night I felt very safe walking back to my appartment on my own (I lived here for half a year so had quite some walks). The city is known for this safety feeling, even in the narrower steeets at the city center. Besides, I have never seen this many other women on a solo trip in a city.
Posted: January 16, 2025Venice is a very safe city, but as a woman, you always need to be careful and look around to avoid problems. In any case, walking around at night, even alone, is safe and peaceful. The only problem in the city is pickpockets, who have decreased in recent years, but in crowded places it's always good to be cautious.
Posted: January 4, 2025Venice is a safe city, there’s no much violence or crime. It’s not much dangerous to walk around even at late night. You may want to avoid the station bus and its surroundings if you are alone at night.
Posted: December 29, 2024I'm new in town, and the first thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of immigrants who tend to be dangerous, so always watch out, girls. Overall, it is safe in public places!

Felt Safe all around but in some very busy streets there are people to tell you that you should wear your bag in front of you. We did Drive with a Bus After 10pm and we didn’t feel unsafe. But maybe it depends on the Part of Venice were you are.

First of all, Venice is pretty expensive, if you want to visit the city, it's better to book an hotel at Mestre and take the train or the bus to go to the city (from Mestre centro to piazzale Roma, it's about 20 min I would say). One bus ticket is 1,70€ if I remember well, and the train is around 1,45€. And if you book an hotel at Lido, be ready to spend money with the waterbus ! Lido is cool (beach, kind people, chill...), but pay 9,50€ a single waterbus ticket is expensive. For example, a day ticket is 20€ and a week ticket is 65€ (it works for both bus and vaporetto). To visit, i would say the Ghetto, Tre Archi, Giardini Biennale and the neighborhood around. I never went to Murano and Burano, but it's a need to visit these islands. At Lido, the neighborhood of Malamocco is bellissimo, there's Chioggia too, both are an old Venice less touristic. At Venice, there's a Conad (supermarket) in an old theater. While being at Venice, try the Spritz with Aperol or Select (Aperol is from Padova and Select is the real and tastiest one (it's bitter) which comes from Venice.) The price of Spritz is way cheaper on Venice than anywhere else in Italy. At Mestre, you don't feel this safe, especially at Mestre centro or the trainstation, where there are maranza (weirdos), but at Venice, it's way different ! Like, at night, i feel good while walking alone, i'm just afraid that some men could follow me (I look behind me even where I live, it's just a "habit").
