Venice is for the most part a safe city, since at night noone, literally no one is around you can feel pretty safe but then again if you meet someone it's just the two of you so it can be scary from this point of view. Just be careful and bring pepper spray with you but usually Venice street at night are empty. Just avoid Mestre city (the land, Venice is the island), Mestre can be very dangerous if you're staying there in an hotel to sleep, be very carefull, many of my friends there have been harassed.
Posted: March 28, 2025For the first in my entire life I’m living in a city where I totally feel safe. Since I live here I’ve never experienced bad situations. I usually walk at night alone listening to music and I’m not worried.
Posted: February 6, 2025Venice is one of the safest cities in Italy. The city structure makes it less prone to typical urban crimes. However perty crimes such as pickpocketing can occur, especialmy in crowded areas like piazza san marco
Posted: January 26, 2025Venice is not only gorgeous, at night I felt very safe walking back to my appartment on my own (I lived here for half a year so had quite some walks). The city is known for this safety feeling, even in the narrower steeets at the city center. Besides, I have never seen this many other women on a solo trip in a city.
Posted: January 16, 2025Venice is a very safe city, but as a woman, you always need to be careful and look around to avoid problems. In any case, walking around at night, even alone, is safe and peaceful. The only problem in the city is pickpockets, who have decreased in recent years, but in crowded places it's always good to be cautious.
Posted: January 4, 2025Venice is a safe city, there’s no much violence or crime. It’s not much dangerous to walk around even at late night. You may want to avoid the station bus and its surroundings if you are alone at night.
Posted: December 29, 2024I'm new in town, and the first thing I've noticed is that there are a lot of immigrants who tend to be dangerous, so always watch out, girls. Overall, it is safe in public places!
Posted: December 26, 2024I’d say that Venice island is quite safe. There’s many pickpockets especially in very touristic areas but apart from that, it’s generally quite safe. I wouldn’t recommend visiting Venezia Mestre alone after dark, especially the area close to the train station, since there have been a few people robbed or threatened.
Posted: December 25, 2024Venice is a safe city, because of tourism the authorities keep it very safe. You may see some socially marginalized people in the area next to mestre station but overall you can feel safe moving around at night alone as a woman
Posted: September 9, 2024venice is a very safe city. Not having cars it makes me feel much more safer compared to other cities. I often walk alone even in the night and I almost always felt safe. Anyway you need to pay attention to your belongings, there could be thieves stealing stuff around!

i loved venice! it was one of the prettiest places i’ve been, every where i looked i just wanted to take a photo. i stayed on the mainland which i would definitely recommend because it drives down prices by A LOT! i would also say that going in winter enhanced my experience!

I visited Venice recently and, as expected, it was absolutely beautiful. The canals, narrow streets, and historic buildings made it feel like I was walking through a movie set. The city is very walkable — I barely used any public transportation. Most places are easy to reach on foot, and wandering around is half the fun. It’s easy to get lost, but that’s part of the charm. Tourist spots can get crowded, especially around San Marco, but it wasn’t overwhelming. As for safety, I felt generally fine walking around during the day and early evening. One thing to note: food can be hit or miss depending on where you go. Some restaurants cater mainly to tourists, so I recommend checking reviews or going slightly off the main path if you want something more authentic. Overall, Venice was a unique and beautiful experience — definitely worth visiting at least once.
