Rome is pretty chill overall, although the petty theft is unreal. Esp in areas that are see more traffic by tourists, being robbed is more likely than not. You need to keep your belongings close and eyes open, but I would say it's pretty equal to other major eu cities like Barcelona or Paris
Posted: April 29, 2025Rome is a safe city in general, but it depends on the quarter you’re in. In the Centre there is much more safety because of the control but it’s also really chaotic, so some things still happen there.

Rome is safe if you know it! Avoid going around with wallets or phone on display, especially in more touristy areas or public transports. Personally I pay a lot of attention to my personal belongings when walking around the Termini area. I straight up avoid it at night, so I suggest to not book there your stay. San Lorenzo became safer during the recent years, but for example the area between Termini, San Lorenzo and Scalo San Lorenzo isn’t surely the best spot for walking at night alone.
Posted: April 27, 2025It depends on which areas you are visiting. I live near Roma Tiburtina, which is mostly inhabitated by people who live in the city and not turists so the crime is the same rate as any big city (the bigger the city the higher the rate i think). The closer you are to very turistics areas, the higher the change of being robbed. I would suggest not going near any of the big stations at night or when the sun sets, especially not Roma Termini (if you can avoid it altoghether i highly suggest it).

It was my second time in Rome - but first on my own - and I loved it. I love this city. I wouldn’t say I always felt safe but most of the time I was feeling pretty safe and relaxed. If you go there, don’t miss Trastevere’s restaurants and the sunset in Villa Borghese, where you can se Rome from the top with a beautiful music on the background. The city isn’t that cheap but, as everyone says, just get a distance from the tourist areas that you’ll find a good place with amazing food, pastries, cheese and wine for a good price.

Hi everyone!!! i’m Simona, i’m 21 yo and i currently live in Rome, but i’m originally from a small town in the south of Italy. I’ve always loved to travel, and my goal is to be able to do it even if i’m still a broke student🎀🎀 I’m literally a social butterfly, i even talk with the walls sometimes, so if you need new friends make sure to hang out with me!! only flaw: my schedule is really tight, so i’m not always free to host people. (update: can’t host people end of may and june😭) Love y’all and stay safe♥️
