It's a big city, especially in the outskirts it is not very safe, in the center the controls are greater but it is vast and even there it depends on the area. I recommend going to areas with lots of people like Trastevere and the surrounding area, especially if you're looking for nightlife. Despite this, it's worth it.
Posted: January 26, 2025Overall the city is quite safe, still there have been episodes in the news that made me think and fear otherwise. I have been living here for ten years and I have to say I only witness to a couple of episodes, a robbery and a person completely wasted. Still, as a woman I still avoid certain areas at night, like Termini station, and I am super aware of my surroundings when I am alone.
Posted: January 26, 2025Rome is a big city. As in every big city, you have to be smart and present to yourself; if you don't look confused or trust strangers, it will be a safe experience! If you don't feel safe, you can look for one of the many shops or restaurants where you can read "punto viola": they will help women who ask for it!
Posted: January 22, 2025Rome safeness depends on the neighbors you go. I would just suggest to avoid not crowded places at night, especially near train stations. During the day, I always feel very safe to go around and take public transportations
Posted: January 20, 2025Rome, like many Italian cities, is generally safe, with the exception of a few minor crimes, such as purse snatching, pickpocketing, and car theft. Travelers need to be careful as in any other capital city as there is very little violent crime, but plenty of scams and pickpocketing.
Posted: January 19, 2025Rome is quite safe, especially closer to the city center, but walking alone at night can feel a bit uncomfortable. Over the past two years, nothing critical has happened to me, but there were a few instances when men approached me in a very pushy and intrusive way, trying to get my number.
Posted: January 15, 2025Rome is acceptably safe as far as it concerns physical harassment or robberies (but pickpockets on public transportation are very common). It is thou pretty common to hear people commenting on women or catcalling them. The central areas are safer, the problem is that many areas are not covered by public transportation and this creates unsafe environments when walking on streets.
Posted: January 13, 2025I think it’s kinda safe, you can walk around tame the bus and having no problem during the day especially if you are in the center you should not have many problem. During the night it became a bit more dangerous and actually being alone scares me. Anyway I recommend to non to go in the Est of Rome or the extremely south west or Est, the center/ north center/ south center are definitely safer. Anyway Rome is one of the most beautiful city in the world the history and the art that you can see when you walk around is Wow . And also the cuisine☺️

Rome is definetly unsafe. Of course it depends on the neighborhood you are, but being a big city It Is common to meet lot of people looking for someone innocent to trick. However I think Rome Is not far different from the other big cities so if you already live in one of them you shouldn't be scared. If you don't you just have to pay high attention and not trust strangers.
Posted: January 3, 2025I avoid moving alone at night her in Rome because there are a lot of weird people, expecially on the public transports. But often it happens that I’m forced to do it and nothing never happened to me.

My trip to Rome was amazing! Me and my family spent 6 days in Rome visiting the highlights and I must say I felt like I lived there before, like I belong there. Felt home! I visited too many places to remember them all now but everything, the museums, the churches, the farmers market, the streets, the nature, the architecture... All beautiful and special! Did you know there's a pyramid in Rome? I just saw one and couldn't believe my eyes. On my next trip to Rome I will definitely get inside to explore and learn it's history, also I suggest that you go really early to the most famous places like church St. Peter in Vatican, the Colosseum or the Pantheon because the lines are long and it can take time to get in. Also, a good solution is to buy online the tickets so that you don't wait that long in line. Hope it helps see you :)
Posted: January 20, 2025Experienced: September, 2023Unfortunately, this was by far my least favorite vacation location. Everything was too expensive, the food was subpar & inauthentic, and the city was somewhat filthy… The actual historic sites were truly breathtaking, and definitely worth the visit. Personally, I have zero desire to return, but if I went to keep other travelers company, I’d prefer to stay anywhere in Italy outside the city & just pop in when we visit attractions.

I love travelling, camping and walking around in cities, archaeological sites and nature. I'd like to know and befriend with people around the world. I'm currently studying Korean language and culture and next year I'm also learning Chinese and, maybe, Arabic.
