Rome is generally quite safe during the day, but it's very common to be catcalled or harassed during the night, so preferably always stay with a friend or two. To avoid centocelle or ex-mattatoio area at night.

I spent a few months in Rome, and maybe I was lucky to not experience anything bad happening there. Other than stares from men and some cat calls I didn’t experience any problems. And no matter the stares I wasn’t afraid, no one ever tried to do anything. Pit pocketing is a big thing in Rome in the big metro or bus stations but most people call out when they notice a pick pocketer so that was also okay. I never had anything stolen. And I know they say Termini is the most unsafe place, and it is pretty bad but at least there are cops 24/7. The metro stop Vittorio Emanuele is even scarier
Posted: July 14, 2025its not very safe especially if you are staying in the hood. nothing ever happened to me but i try my best to be safe. like talking to my friends on call or i send them voice notes. i also always tell people where i am
Posted: July 13, 2025It really depends on the zone you're visiting. On train station or public transport you could be easily robbed in the daylight, or suspiciuosly assaulted (touched, petted) o followed or catcalled, and the same can happen in turistic areas. I would say you have to be attentive and conscious of the situation to avoid that. The periferical zones and train stations as well, at night can be fairly dangerous, i make sure to never be alone, or to have pepper spray with me. It's totally doable, and nothing ever happened to me beside being catcalled, but I personally can't stand the fear if i'm not in my neighbourhood

Considering that Rome is an enormous city, safety really depends on where you're staying. The center of the city is fairly safe for women (as any place can be), some periferic neighborhoods can be more dangerous. If you're alone, I would advise to take a LIME (electric bike service) to be safer.

It depends on the area that you are in, some areas are a bit risky than the others, overall we are in the capital so it's not that much risky but there are a lot of different people and especially at night everything is possible. I always prefer to be with someone.

We all absolutely loved Rome! We were unsure going into it because of how much negatives you see about Rome, but we had the best time. We felt safe, the food was great, and the weather in February was amazing. We all do extensive research and made sure to avoid tourist traps, so maybe that’s why we had the best time!
Posted: July 20, 2025It was a very nice experience but I did not feel safe and secure to walk alone at night. Maybe in the center yes but not in other areas. I enjoyes visitig different places and found beautiful parks around.
