Florence is pretty safe during the day and some neighborhoods are safer than other. Santa Maria Novella, San Jacopino, Piazza Dalmazia, Cascine Park are bad. Be careful at night! Florence is no more safe at night and pls avoid dark alleys

I feel safe in the Florence, also walking along in the evening. Of course I have my guard on as well, but at the same time I can be relaxed and open for the beauty. The traffic is quite wild though, so look around before crossing the street. Scooters can appear out of nowhere. I usually walk everywhere, but when I use public transport I am very satisfied with it. "at bus" app is great, you can buy tickets with it, track your journey and where you need to get of. The food in restaurants I've been so far is good and so far I always spent bellow 20€ and was full for hours afterwards. Though water in restaurants is quite expensive in my opinion. I will start ordering tea with meals, to see if there's a difference. The prices for coffee can be surprisingly cheap, you can get espresso for 1€, 1,30€ and it is good. In restaurants, coffee shops, shops almost all employees speak English good enough to get the deal done. When I try to practice my Italian, they sometimes switch to English when they see I am struggling. But they are not making fun, just trying to do their work efficiently.

Florence is a safe city during the day in the city center, but unfortunately there are some neighborhoods that are dangerous, the ones close to the main train station for example. During the night there isn’t that much supervision and as a girl alone it isn’t that much safe, but it always depend where you are!
Posted: January 22, 2025Florence is a small historic city. It's one of the most popular cities in Italy, but unlike the other most visited one, it is safer. I've never experienced harassment of any kind, also because it's enlightened and there is little poverty and menaces.
Posted: January 5, 2025Never encountered anything shady. Keep on the main roads and all will be fine. Cat calling happens way less than other places. It is overall a safe city. I live close to the center and nothing has ever happened
Posted: December 31, 2024I think Florence it’s a pretty safe city, you just need to be careful in really busy areas, to avoid any pickpockets. Also avoid the central station zone or “fortezza” during night. I’ve never had any issues but those areas can make you feel unsafe
Posted: December 24, 2024Florence is a safe city (the center has always a lot of people, which helps), however, avoid the inside of the Cascine Park (people usually do and sell drugs there). It's a good city for a solo trip tho :)
Posted: December 24, 2024Where I am, it is quite a peaceful area. I always try to return before nightfall, but in my experience, at least it is very peaceful. There are obviously dangers like being at the station in the surroundings at night, it's a bit dangerous but aside from this, let's say that I feel quite safe.
Posted: November 11, 2024I have lived there for three years and I have never had any problems, not even returning alone in the evening, my fears come more from prudence but I have never been threatened. Public transport is very functional and quite quiet, only in the centre is there often the police to keep everything under control.

Very beautiful place. Have lived here for 2 months so far and haven’t had any bad experiences. Public transport is easy and it’s a very walkable city. I definitely would advise to look after your purse or bag though as anywhere in italy is known to have pickpocketers.

Beautiful scenery, lovely people and the best food I've ever had on holiday, for an affordable price too. Going there has made me want to move and live there forever. So many museums and places to see.

I stayed with my family in an Airbnb, we took the buses to go into the city, it was really easy to move around. People were nice even though I was the only one speaking English and a bit of Italian. The only thing I would really recommend is to book tickets in advance for every museum and of course to eat ice cream ! I fell in love with this beautiful city and their art. Very walkable city with a lot of things to visit.
