Not safe as before Covid! Please be careful with public transportation at night, try to share a taxi instead. I suggest you to avoid the train station zone (Santa Maria Novella) and Via Nazionale with Piazza Indipendenza. Try to be on Lungarni, instead

very touristy so very busy at all times, very unusual to not be near several people even late at night. got catcalled a few times but mainly by older italian men which I expected, nothing more than this though . I stayed at yellowsquare hostel which felt very well established and safe at all times.
Posted: July 27, 2025Florence is by far the safest city I’ve ever lived in. Of course nothing is ever guaranteed, but overall it’s a peaceful and easy-going place. My neighborhood is quiet and residential, with local families and Florentine people. The city stays calm most of the time. Even on weekends the nightlife is gentle compared to other cities. Late at night on Fridays or Saturdays might feel a little less calm, but I often walk home alone and I’ve always felt safe. Don’t worry 😇🌸

I felt mostly safe this trip! I had experienced some sexual harassment (verbal only) on past trips to Italy while walking around so I was weary about travelling solo in Italy but it was fine! I got called out to by a few men but I think they were trying to sell me stuff so i just disregarded them. On my train to the airport a man did sit across from me and we spoke to each other in broken French and he was apparently trying to hook up with me which was not a fun experience but I didnt feel unsafe, just uncomfy. Since Florence is so touristy I think the risk of being assaulted or harassed on the streets is really low. I didnt go clubbing or to bars so I can't review those, but the walking I did in the evenings was for the most part fine I wouldn't be worried as long as you are aware of your surroundings:)

I’m using every day subway: subway, using so safety and cheapest. Santa Maria Novella station near the menu famous place if you want shopping or if you want walking famous place all is so near. Local food restaurant is cheapest all the best museum are there.

One of my best travel experiences and a great place for a first solo travel trip! Florence is extremely safe, know about areas to avoid before you go (there aren’t many) and you’ll be beyond fine. I felt extremely safe wandering the streets day and night alone, and I am typically a very nervous nighttime walker. The food was amazing and after my first dinner eating solo it was no big deal, I’d read horror stories online about people getting turned away for only having a party of one so I reserved everything in advance to avoid any potential downers like that. The last thing I’ll say is that on paper my hotel looked close to the train station (a place to avoid in most european cities) and I was nervous about that, but it was by the Medici chapels and so extremely safe. Also I learned Italy has a different definition of late night than we do in the states, 9 is late here but Italians are just getting to dinner. P.S. the Medici chapels are breathtaking and in my opinion an underrated gem in Florence
