I think Florence is a kind of safe city, since it’s small and full of young people such as university’s students. Also, there’s always someone in the streets because the city is almost always “awake”. Pay attention to your bag and stuff on public transportation, since someone could try to rob you (but like almost everywhere, don’t panic). Don’t walk around Cascine Park and the Central station of Santa Maria Novella alone in the night. I think Florence is pretty fine and you’ll be okay.
Posted: April 13, 2025Quite safe, if you stick to center especially in the tourist season, it feels pretty safe when you’re walking after dark… pickpockets are a huge problem though, in the public transport you have to be super ca
Posted: April 9, 2025In my opinion florence is generally a quiet city. You have to be careful, and in crowded places or on public transport you need to keep an eye on your backpack or bag. It is not a very active city at night, except for some small areas in the centre, so at night I do not feel very safe taking long walks alone in almost deserted streets. At night there is very few public transport (the routes end around midnight/1.00).

Florence is a beautiful city but right now it is full of tourists and so many people therefore it's getting very crowded and more dangerous than before. I wouldn't say you can't enjoy yourself being fully carefree but be careful of your surroundings everytime. Always have a vigilant eye on your belongings and for solo women be always sure that someone you trust know where you are. Better safe than sorry! Otherwise have a nice experience in Florence there are tons of visit and amazing place to see
Posted: February 27, 2025I personally have had many nights walking at least 20-30minutes home and have felt safe the entire time. I have gotten yelled at but nothing physical or too intimidating. I do know of people getting mugged or followed in the city center.

It is safe unless you’re alone at a bar or it’s late at night, in these cases you can taken advantage of very quickly. Queer bar maybe an example of just men doing whatever they want unfortunately, a friend of mine has been kissed on the neck unprovoked there.
Posted: February 26, 2025Florence is pretty safe during the day and some neighborhoods are safer than other. Santa Maria Novella, San Jacopino, Piazza Dalmazia, Cascine Park are bad. Be careful at night! Florence is no more safe at night and pls avoid dark alleys

I feel safe in the Florence, also walking along in the evening. Of course I have my guard on as well, but at the same time I can be relaxed and open for the beauty. The traffic is quite wild though, so look around before crossing the street. Scooters can appear out of nowhere. I usually walk everywhere, but when I use public transport I am very satisfied with it. "at bus" app is great, you can buy tickets with it, track your journey and where you need to get of. The food in restaurants I've been so far is good and so far I always spent bellow 20€ and was full for hours afterwards. Though water in restaurants is quite expensive in my opinion. I will start ordering tea with meals, to see if there's a difference. The prices for coffee can be surprisingly cheap, you can get espresso for 1€, 1,30€ and it is good. In restaurants, coffee shops, shops almost all employees speak English good enough to get the deal done. When I try to practice my Italian, they sometimes switch to English when they see I am struggling. But they are not making fun, just trying to do their work efficiently.

Florence is a safe city during the day in the city center, but unfortunately there are some neighborhoods that are dangerous, the ones close to the main train station for example. During the night there isn’t that much supervision and as a girl alone it isn’t that much safe, but it always depend where you are!
Posted: January 22, 2025Florence is a small historic city. It's one of the most popular cities in Italy, but unlike the other most visited one, it is safer. I've never experienced harassment of any kind, also because it's enlightened and there is little poverty and menaces.

Florence was dreamy! There are a lot of sights, like the David statue and the Kathedrale. I was there on a study trip, so we visited a lot of art museums and the churches we're also really pretty, just go into a little church, they are really charming! A plant based Restaurant i personally really liked was "Santo Falafel" and the sandwich imbiss "Pitti Express" was also really good. I do have to criticise that the prices for me as a German are pretty high, but on markets, which there are several there every day, fruit and stuff ist not that pricey and very delicious! Also there are not a lot of parks in the central part of the city and not everything in Florence is a dream come true, cause there are also ugly sites: work environment for the people there is often hard and of course there are homeless people there, sexually harrassment is in italy also very high. So i think it's important to not overromanticize these places, but for me it was an unforgettable experience, also cause i had one of my best friends with me! PS: the fleamarkets are soo big

I went on a school trip some years ago, so it was a very large group and we always felt safe. Overall, it was easy to get around and we usually used public transport to move or we would just walk most places. Only warning isn't safety related, it's just that in Florence the bread isn't salted so that might be a surprise when you bite into it
