Modena is really safe, north Italy is pretty safe. You can walk alone and 90% of the time you are safe. Is not a dark city or really dangerous. Obviously there are places there are a bit dangerous but if you’re in 2/3 people you can stay safe even in that places. There’s no serial killer or something similar here. It is really rare listen that someone is being murder here. But you have to stay prepared for the rubbed. They rubbed my house almost 3/4 times in 15 years.
Posted: May 22, 2025It’s pretty safe as long as, like in every other city, you avoid certain places. for example i wouldn’t advise going to Viale Gramsci alone and honestly that whole part of modena isn’t pretty. The part “Sacca” is getting bad as well. and also the Novi Park isn’t very nice alone at night!

Modena is overall a safe city. As in every city, there are places and hours in which is recommended for solo women not to walk through, for example near the train station area or in the north neighborhoods. During the day it’s quiet, a part from some people commenting how you look, but I’ve never experienced being approached by those people. The public transport is ok.
Posted: December 23, 2024It's a safe place but you have to avoid the bus station and training station if you are alone and there are no more people. Also avoid those bar that seems "cheep". A positive thing is that in the center there are always someone like militare, politecnico,...

I live in Modena and I always walk alone. It’s a multicultural city but I can say it’s safe. We are in Italy so of course we lock doors and we mind our stuff. But overall I think you can trust people
Posted: July 1, 2024It is very quiet town. In the night it doesn’t feel unsafe but cause of there is nearly no one is out it can be scary a little. Never seen a homeless people in here. Parks can be tricky at night times especially. Other than that all good.
