It is good. I have walked alone at night plenty of times, as long as I stay in light, populated areas it is fine. Petty crime is quite low, I’ve left my belongings unattended in a few places and had no problems. You just want to be careful around the Hamilton and Mayfield area. There are only a few areas I exercise caution (Hamilton and Mayfield mainly) but I have never felt unsafe, just cautious!

Newcastle is north of Sydney by about an hour and a half. Newcastle is a coast line city and with great views. In Newcastle, I feel really safe, same with majority of the places in Australia. No need to worry

Never really felt unsafe. Probably one of the first cities I was not scared to walk home alone. Feels like everyone knows everyone and all people are so helpful and genuinely nice. Also when going out.
