How safe is Australia?

Chiltern

it’s a very safe town, i am just generally a bit paranoid. everyone knows everyone, so when your there, so many people are willing to give rides or organise a way home so you won’t have to walk alone by yourself

Sydney

Sydney is a big city which can get quite quiet at night, meaning there are less people around which can be scary. You may experience some minor harassment, but I am rarely worried about anything more serious than that. There are always guards you can be near on public transport and most people are quite receptive if you need to ask for help or assistance.

Sydney

sydney, specifically the northern beaches is one of the safest places i know. yes it is busy and crowded but if you just stay away from the druggies then nothing bad will happen, even if you talk to the druggies, most of them are nice and wont shout at you

Sydney

sydney is pretty safe, just general safety issues that come with any big city. during the day i’m not worried about my personal safety at all. at night i try to stay to well lit areas with high pedestrian traffic and haven’t had any major issues. sexual harassment and assault is much more likely to happen in a bar or club than just on the street. people will very rarely approach you in public, even in tourist areas like circular quay. violent crime is low but you may have things stolen, for example if you leave unattended bags on bondi beach.

Melbourne

I live in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs and I feel safe. I will say I don’t go out late late at night but into the evening there are always people around. I think melbourne has a good culture for that stuff. I should say this is my perspective as a tall white women with an athletic build

Brisbane

Brisbane is a daytime city, we are up early and active, enjoying cafes and walks along the river. It’s pretty safe during the day, you can mostly leave your bag on a table and walk away for a minute (still wouldn’t do it). Theft happens, so watch your belongings, but I wouldn’t say we have a pickpocket issue, it’s more opportunistic theft. Certain areas at night where there’s high drinking can be a little bit rowdy. I wouldn’t leave a drink unattended (as I wouldn’t anywhere in the world) and going out, stay with your friends. Nothing good really happens in Brisbane after 10pm, that’s also when most of the trouble happens. Brisbane has lots of newer and nicer venues. If you go to those spots, you don’t have issues. Some men can be disrespectful and grope/harass or take advantage of women. I am Caucasian, but have seen other races experience racism. Be careful in taxis/ride-share (the sometimes don’t respect women) and if you are single, don’t let them know. Taxis drive super slow and go the wrong way to rip you off, and all services can hit on or harass women. I always use ride share with an agreed upon rate. Never use taxis without a meter. While there’s a lot of negatives here, Brisbane is quite safe compared to Sydney and Melbourne, and the awareness you should have is definitely no different to travelling to most countries. People are generally pretty friendly and relaxed, we help a mate out and love to “take the piss” (that means joke around).

St Kilda East

Very safe, suburban community. Lovely parks and schools. Fun fact: it’s the most Jewish area of Melbourne so it’s very safe and calm. However, there isn’t much to do in this specific area, head to St Kilda for a bit more fun (although not as safe).

Davoren Park

Not the safest area. Can be avoided as it’s not a tourist attraction Crime and robbery is very high, place not the prettiest so there’s no need to visit it at all.
