I feel like Melbourne is quite safe to walk around at night as a solo female traveller, especially in the CBD. Like anywhere in the world, don't go down dark alleyways or get into cars with strangers and you will be more than fine!

Melbourne is a great city, relatively low crime rate and you can walk around generally feeling quite safe as a female. If I was a solo female travel here, I would feel quite safe walking around alone.
Posted: September 23, 2024Melbourne can seem quite sketchy sometimes, but honestly, getting to know the city and its people is the only way to feel safe. Close suburbs to Melbourne like Richmond are probably as unsafe as it gets, but Fitzroy and North Melbourne are wonderful suburbs that offer great street lighting and have safe environments

melbourne is relatively safe in busy areas with lots of people, and also the quiet areas. it’s hit or miss things can happen anywhere but overall it’s relatively safe if you’re not in dodgey places at night
Posted: July 9, 2024Personally I find Melbourne very safe to live in. However I have heard of cases of women being assaulted, and quite high rates of theft and burglary. Luckily, never something I have experienced personally.

Melbourne is a very safe city! Some areas you may have break-ins, but just keep your doors locked and you’ll be OK. As a woman, I feel safe taking public transport, but I would walk/cycle in lit areas at night.

Melbourne is very safe. It's very well lit and the are police on every train station at night. The city is also patrolled. It's best to be cautious at night as with most cities, but I've never felt unsafe travelling at night on public transport.
Posted: June 30, 2024Melbourne is really safe, but as every big city, it has some suburbs where you should take precautions: Footscray, Frankston and the area around the two main stations (Flinders Street and Southern Cross).
Posted: June 24, 2024It’s a really nice place and I do recommend travelling there, however I have some bad experiences. You need to be vigilant on a night out as unfortunately people do get spiked so don’t go out without friends you can rely on. In and around the city at night there are drunk people who do unfortunately get violent sometimes so be careful with that but there is also police everywhere and the train stations all have officers at them after dark.
Posted: June 22, 2024Overall as a city people are friendly and kind... As a woman in public generally I think you are very safe. This is only my experience as a local white woman so it comes with the shelter of that privelidge. But it's happened to me and my friends that we lose our wallets in the park and someone looks at our address on our license and returns it with everything in it to our letterbox. So I'd say if that's a barometer of public atmosphere we doin alright...

My Melbourne experience is not too good, however that is likely due to my experience at the hostel (St Kilda Nomads). At this hostel I was in a mixed room and a guy was jerking himself off the whole evening. He slept in the bunk below me and the whole bed was shaking. After that I didn’t feel so safe in the city anymore. Also I thought that st Kilda area was kind of sketchy. Not everything was bad though, there was a beautiful beach walk to a viewpoint. This is a must do at sunset!
Posted: October 28, 2024First time that i went to melbourne i wasn’t sure what to do. There seemed like a lot to do in such little time. from what i did end up doing i felt safe, especially as would go out at night by myself i didn’t question my safety
