I live in Melbourne’s outer northern suburbs and I feel safe. I will say I don’t go out late late at night but into the evening there are always people around. I think melbourne has a good culture for that stuff. I should say this is my perspective as a tall white women with an athletic build
Posted: January 21, 2025Were I live is in a safe and accessible area. Like everywhere you have some interesting characters, but they just talk at you and move on, just startling but then you feel fine. Nothing to be stressed about.
Posted: January 16, 2025It’s a safe city. I can take the public transfer and never felt uncomfortable! The homeless people and those you are using drugs can be seen but they don‘t do anything. I never had an bad experience in CBD or somewhere else

CBD quite safe as it’s always bustling and well lit and there’s always people around. As usual like many other cities there are certain places that you expect sketchy people to hang out at night such as Elizabeth street but as long as you mind your own business it’s usually fine

It’s definitely safe during the day in busy places and on public transport. However there are instances after dark in parks, quiet train stations etc of solo women being raped/attacked. Usual precautions nothing extra.
Posted: January 13, 2025Melbourne feels safe until you hear about the number of women that go missing and are eventually found to have been murdered. It's an amazing city, but it is definitely scary as a woman to know of the crime that goes on and how at risk you might be.

I find it safe enough to be able to walk around alone in the dark even past midnight in most areas. Some areas however like the corner of flinders st and elizabeth st and also some suburbs like footscray are better to be avoided for non locals by themselves if possible
Posted: January 5, 2025It is safe but some places can be shady and being a girl I have felt safer here than where I used to live before. The public transport running through the city is quite safe I personally haven’t had any negative or wrong accidents in trams or trains
Posted: December 26, 2024Depends a lot on the area, but overall safe. I went around alone without problems, but some friends of mine say it's dangerous in certain areas. A lot of drug around and drunk people sometimes, especially in chapel street, but I never had issues
Posted: December 24, 2024Very safe city, there are a few homeless around specially in the city and much less in the suburbs. I can safely walk alone in the evening and I'm never worried. No need to put your belongings away or hide your phone, it's very, very unlikely you'd get robbed.

My Melbourne experience is not too good, however that is likely due to my experience at the hostel (St Kilda Nomads). At this hostel I was in a mixed room and a guy was jerking himself off the whole evening. He slept in the bunk below me and the whole bed was shaking. After that I didn’t feel so safe in the city anymore. Also I thought that st Kilda area was kind of sketchy. Not everything was bad though, there was a beautiful beach walk to a viewpoint. This is a must do at sunset!
Posted: October 28, 2024First time that i went to melbourne i wasn’t sure what to do. There seemed like a lot to do in such little time. from what i did end up doing i felt safe, especially as would go out at night by myself i didn’t question my safety
