How safe is Sydney for women?

More specifically the northern beaches where I’m from is every safe. Being one of the more expensive areas to live there is a generally a higher level of safety, would not feel unsafe walking around here also public transport in really efficient in and out of the main city

Very safe. I would not cross parks that have no lighting at night, or walk around train stations late at night, just in case. However, neither I nor my acquaintances have ever experienced bad things.

I always walk home late at night and I feel safe. I’ve accidentally left my car window down the entire night parked at the street and nothing happened. It’s really safe that I barely ever have to worry about my safety

Growing up in north shore sydney has provided me with extensive knowledge of the surrounding areas. I grew up in an extremely safe part of Sydney and feel safe regardless of the time or situation I find myself being in (alone or with friends).

Some areas have higher levels of break ins to cars/residences. But generally the CBD and more touristy areas are very safe. I feel comfortable catching public transport alone at night. No problems with cabs, Ubers etc. and robberies/pickpocketing is very very rare

I feel super safe walking around Sydney, while there is some subtle misogyny for the most part it feels a lot safer than other places I have travelled. I would definetly feel safe walking around Sydney’s CBD at night by myself and there is no issue of pickpockets and theft.

Sydney is a beautiful city. It's quite big and sprawling. The northern beaches are my favourite part of the city. They have lots of beautiful beaches and walks in nature to do. To travel to the Beaches get a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly. It takes less than 30mins.

Sydney, especially compared to other places, is exceptionally safe with a very proactive police force. I think that the worst really would be cat calling which doesn’t happen overly often and is never more than that (as in it’s highly unlikely someone would ever touch you etc)

Sydney can be very safe in parts, but, like with any city, certain areas aren't so safe and I would recommend staying closer to the centre of the city. The coastal side (east) of the city tends to be a bit safer and quieter. The only time I worry about safety is walking home late at night and I see a man since I live in a quiet suburb so no one else is around, but I have never been attacked.

I think Sydney and Australia in general is very safe, I haven't felt worried about walking alone on the street. Although there are many homeless people and drug addicts on the streets, I have not heard of anything happening to anyone anyway.

Sydney is such a fabulous city. The people are so kind and i love that the blue mountains are so close by and a great place to hike. I also always felt safe! The night life is quite big and getting to see an opera in the sydney opera house is a must

Bit of a boring city tbh but felt safe and was cool to see the opera house. Think it just lacked the personality of Melbourne and other aussie beach towns. Would reccomend bondi beach, Melbourne or magnetic island over sydney

Is Sydney worth visiting?

I loved the museums, specially the contemporary art museum. It rained all week I was there so I couldn't go really do any activities like hiking or visiting any of the nearby beaches. The city was nice and there was a lot to do, I specially recommend doing the guided tour to the opera house. I definitely DO NOT recommend the hostel I stayed in, Venus Central hostel. It's a all female hostel, where you have ONE table and FOUR chairs alone for everybody there, there are cameras everywhere and signs everywhere about how they're watching and will fine you ridiculous amounts of money if you do "x" thing. There is also no reception or people you can actually talk to face to face if you have a problem or if you want to leave your bags a bit before or after check in. Honestly go to any other hostel.

Solo travel experience

During my four-week stay in Balmain, I found Sydney to be a welcoming haven for explorers like myself, providing a sense of security even during nighttime outings. Venturing out alone after dusk never felt intimidating. Locals were incredibly friendly and approachable, always willing to offer assistance. Navigating Sydney was a breeze, thanks to its efficient public transport system. Whether by train, ferry or bus, getting around was convenient and budget-friendly in comparison to taxi rides.
