How safe is Sydney?

Some places are well lit, and there are often people out at night for many hours so the company is nice. The public transport is good but you have to be vigilant and keep your wits about you in general as normal.

I have been living in Sydney for about 24 years. I believe crimes to travellers are very rare. People are friendly, helping traveller. But always be mindful not walking at night alone or having a lot of cash

Pretty safe! One of the safest places I've been or lived in. The only other I can say I feel safer in is maybe Japan. Practice common precaution; beware drunk/loud people late at night or on late trains home, is the only thing I can say. I take late public transport home most days and don't think twice about it.

Sydney is a very safe city. As with anywhere that is new and unfamiliar to you; observe local women and do as they do. Certain areas of the inner city, Redfern, Waterloo, have a grimy-er history and thats reflected in the safety level especially at night.

The city is very safe! Be aware of your surroundings at night. (Keep the earbuds low after dark.) Public transport is convenient and easy (you can use Apple Pay or a credit card, no need for a transport specific card)!!

Sydney is relatively safe for women and solo travelers. The CBD area is packed and busy everyday till around 1-2 AM. It's easy to get help and get in contact the police with any issues arising. Lots of work opportunities with little issues.

Sydney is generally pretty safe for tourists, particularly in the areas where they typically stay. However, since Sydney's nightlife ends rather early at 1am, the city tends to be quite quiet by 3am, with fewer people around. The only exception to this is King's Cross, which can be a bit dodgy, but the rest of the city is perfectly fine.

Sydney is a very safe city if you are walking around the city or the beaches. I would keep an eye on my drink at clubs as there have been a few spiking cases. Public transport is very safe as well, I just always try to stay in the same train carriage as the conductor. Also, some suburban areas can be quite dangerous as there are some poorer suburbs outside of the city.

Sydney is less safe in certain areas. If you stay central to the CBD or its surroundings, there are usually always a lot of people around. If you are going to venture out, best to go with a group as it can be confusing to get around and the public transport further out of Sydney is more complicated and limited.

Safety is purely individual and I know I have a high degree of personal autonomy and feeling of safety. I am not concerned about being in crowds and never worry about what strangers think of me. I would always decide to walk in well lit streets not dark ones but I don’t significantly change my plans because of imagined situations. If you are new to Sydney, be in control of yourself and always plan to get home safely in your own

Bit of a boring city tbh but felt safe and was cool to see the opera house. Think it just lacked the personality of Melbourne and other aussie beach towns. Would reccomend bondi beach, Melbourne or magnetic island over sydney

I loved Sydney! I felt safe all the time. I don't go out in the evening though so can't really say for the night time but no problem during the day. People were always super nice and happy to help. It's super easy to go around, bus, train, ferry, perfect. I'm on a low budget so didn't really eat outside but there's good prices in the shops. 2 fav spots : Manly and Bronte Beach ⛱️

Is Sydney worth visiting?

Overall rating

Solo travel experience

During my four-week stay in Balmain, I found Sydney to be a welcoming haven for explorers like myself, providing a sense of security even during nighttime outings. Venturing out alone after dusk never felt intimidating. Locals were incredibly friendly and approachable, always willing to offer assistance. Navigating Sydney was a breeze, thanks to its efficient public transport system. Whether by train, ferry or bus, getting around was convenient and budget-friendly in comparison to taxi rides.

I loved traveling the West Coast of Australia. So much to see. The nature is incredible. The people are so friendly and helped if needed. The food was good, but a bit expensive. I stayed in hostels to connect with other people.
