How safe is Sydney?

Sydney is a big city which can get quite quiet at night, meaning there are less people around which can be scary. You may experience some minor harassment, but I am rarely worried about anything more serious than that. There are always guards you can be near on public transport and most people are quite receptive if you need to ask for help or assistance.

sydney, specifically the northern beaches is one of the safest places i know. yes it is busy and crowded but if you just stay away from the druggies then nothing bad will happen, even if you talk to the druggies, most of them are nice and wont shout at you

sydney is pretty safe, just general safety issues that come with any big city. during the day i’m not worried about my personal safety at all. at night i try to stay to well lit areas with high pedestrian traffic and haven’t had any major issues. sexual harassment and assault is much more likely to happen in a bar or club than just on the street. people will very rarely approach you in public, even in tourist areas like circular quay. violent crime is low but you may have things stolen, for example if you leave unattended bags on bondi beach.

Sydney and most of Australia is one of the safest places to live in. I have never been worried about walking home alone or walking out at night. A lot of people keep their houses unlocked as they're not worried about break ins.

It’s moreso just a matter of being aware of your surroundings and choosing activities based on your location. At my home in loftus I feel safe being out after dark, but there are definitely some suburbs in the shire or in the city where I would not feel as comfortable doing that. I don’t love being on the trains alone after dark but have not personally had any issues

The highly populated areas are safe, most people who are ‘danger’ are usually easily identifiable (on drugs) and therefore avoidable. Some train lines can be worse than others however I have not experienced this

Sydney is a very safe city but i wouldn’t say that it is 100% safe. Bad things could still happen but it’s not common. Nothing has ever happened to me personally, apart from some unwanted attention from a guy that looked very creepy. I have heard of spiking and forms of sexual harassment but overall it really depends on where you go and how safe you’re trying to be. If you travel here responsibly and smartly you’ll be fine. We have very nice beaches lovely restaurants and cafes.

A very safe city. Some areas can be considered a bit unsafe around the CBD area, especially at night. Walking around during the day is lovely and there is rarely anything bad that occurs. A great place to solo travel as a female

Extremely safe, I've walked the streets at 3am in the city & whilst lighting could be better, I haven't had any problems with running into safety concerns. There's also almost always a police station near by.

Solo travel

If you are in Sydney in October you need to go see the whales, it is such an amazing experience! You can go to the Harbour and buy a ticket and go alone without any problem. Also don’t miss out on all the beaches Sydney has to offer (Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Tamarama, Manly, etc). The beaches are also very safe but swim between the flags!!
