Sydney is a very clean and safe city. I'm staying in Cronulla, aka The Shire and it's a great place to stay. There is a super clean beach, public transport and shops, supermarkets and cafes. I walk alone at night with no problem at all
Posted: September 23, 2024In the inner city, eastern and western suburbs, Sydney is the safest place I’ve ever lived (including Oxford and Vancouver) - I’m happy to walk home in the very early hours, there’s nowhere that feels unsafe. There is no pick pocketing, almost no physical violence towards women who are strangers (it’s usually men attacking men). There is a problem of domestic violence in Sydney and throughout Australia, but it’s comparatively low compared to similar countries (e.g UK) and very low compared to developing countries. Greatest threats to women in Aus are intimate partners and drunk lads on a night out.

In terms of security Sydney is an amazing place to live because I feel free to leave my home it doesn’t matter the time also in the dark. But as a woman we always need to double pay attention everywhere.

I'm currently living in a suburb north of Sydney surrounded by horses. I feel 100% safe day and night. Sydney is a big city, and the streets are often crowded, so there's nothing to worry about. Australia in general is a very safe country !
Posted: August 12, 2024Sydney city is a bustling and safe area and I’ve never felt unsafe walking around at night or catching public transport. Some clubs can be a little predatory so keep your witts about you but 90% of the time its fine. There can be rowdy drunks out on the street at times but they’re mostly just struggling to walk home.
Posted: August 6, 2024Very safe in comparison to other countries I have visited. I am never worried that I will be pick pocked from, often walk home alone in the dark/after a night out and always leave my things alone at the beach when going or a swim.
Posted: August 5, 2024Sydney for me feels pretty safe. I used to live in Bondi, now in Manly and I never felt unsafe walking around at night. The people here are very nice and helpful. At my very old place, we even left the door open without locking, nothing happened.
Posted: July 27, 2024Very safe. I would not cross parks that have no lighting at night, or walk around train stations late at night, just in case. However, neither I nor my acquaintances have ever experienced bad things.

I always walk home late at night and I feel safe. I’ve accidentally left my car window down the entire night parked at the street and nothing happened. It’s really safe that I barely ever have to worry about my safety

Growing up in north shore sydney has provided me with extensive knowledge of the surrounding areas. I grew up in an extremely safe part of Sydney and feel safe regardless of the time or situation I find myself being in (alone or with friends).

I went to Sydney for about a week to join a workshop. Whenever I go to a new country, I tend to go to places where it's specific for a certain personal purpose even if it's not a popular touristy place. To see something that I've had on my wishlist. For example when I was in Sydney for this trip, I took the train to a small suburb to see a mosque that I have been learning about for a couple of years before I even knew I'd be in Sydney one day. I also love to literally walk around a lot (because it's free!) :D
Posted: August 30, 2024Experienced: February, 2023Sydney is such a fabulous city. The people are so kind and i love that the blue mountains are so close by and a great place to hike. I also always felt safe! The night life is quite big and getting to see an opera in the sydney opera house is a must
