Very safe - never had to worry unless it’s early morning hours (maybe some weird characters out then). Crime is low, never worried about people stealing my stuff (but don’t just leave your stuff unattended).
Posted: May 16, 2025I visited Sydney this March and I was all the time on my own, I used public transport and I didn't feel unsafe at any moment. My phone didn't work but it was easy to move around, if you don't have internet you can find WiFi spots around the city. The people are also helpful.
Posted: April 25, 2025I would say it is really safe, especially for such a big city with lots of tourists, but I've only been to cbd and east from that, idk about the western parts. I experienced sexual harassment once, since I've been there.

29/ Sydney As a local, I consider the city very safe. I can walk around the city centre and Newtown alone very late at night and feel no concern whatsoever. Walking across dark areas specifically deserted parks I would avoid however. Not to say nothing dodgy has ever happened to me, nor that crazy stuff doesn't happen but day to day it is very safe! The least of my worries are having anything stolen, people walk around with their phones hanging in their back pockets and it's normal. You'll see junkies every so often at stations and on trains or at maccas, sometimes they are yelling but they usually don't pose a threat to anyone but themselves as police are close by most of the areas they hang out Come to Australia and see some live music!
Posted: March 4, 2025Sydney is a big city which can get quite quiet at night, meaning there are less people around which can be scary. You may experience some minor harassment, but I am rarely worried about anything more serious than that. There are always guards you can be near on public transport and most people are quite receptive if you need to ask for help or assistance.
Posted: January 22, 2025sydney, specifically the northern beaches is one of the safest places i know. yes it is busy and crowded but if you just stay away from the druggies then nothing bad will happen, even if you talk to the druggies, most of them are nice and wont shout at you

Sydney is a super great and beautiful city. It's very easy to travel around on your own. There is great public transport in the cities and you meet new people everywhere. All in all, I can recommend Sydney in Australia to anyone. There is something for everyone.

I stayed in Sydney for about a month and I would say expect to spend around $60-70 per day, I’d recommend getting groceries rather than eating out because restaurants are very expensive here. I loved visiting the beaches everyday and sitting out in the sun I would recommend renting a car if you’re the type of person to do a lot of hikes or wanting to visit the blue mountains although you can get public transportation pretty much anywhere you want and it’s cheaper then renting or taking an Uber.
