Very safe town, well lit in most areas. Main streets very safe, though the town doesn't have a huge night life so you're not often out super late anyway. There are a few streets that you'd want to generally avoid at night but nothing too scary

Like any town , Ballarat has its strange characters but it is also a town known for drug use. That being said you can expect a few interactions with crackheads out and about but other then that it is fairly safe
Posted: January 3, 2025walk around at night with a friend and keep out of dark alleys and avoid area around little bridge street at night if you're in ballarat central. avoid people who look to be under the influence of drugs, ballarat does have a large meth problem as well as decently high homeless population
