How safe is Germany?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Germany, in general, has a high level of safety even at night. However, like any other urban areas in the world, some parts can be less secure than others. It's always prudent to stay aware of your surroundings, avoid less populated areas, and stick to well-lit lanes. German law enforcement is reliable and emergency services are responsive. Public transportation networks function well into the night and they are normally secure. If you're feeling uneasy, taxis are readily accessible and dependable.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Public transportation in Germany is one of the safest, most efficient, and reliable in the world. Stations and vehicles are generally well-lit and security personnel are frequently present. Whether it's bus, tram, U-Bahn or S-Bahn, it is well-maintained and punctual. Especially in bigger cities like Berlin, Munich, or Hamburg, you can safely travel even at night. It is also common for women to travel alone. However, like anywhere, always maintain general safety awareness.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Germany is generally a safe country for solo female travelers. The incidence of street harassment isn't commonplace, but it's always a good idea to stay alert just like you would in any other country. Most people uphold respect and personal space. Especially in urban areas, you can expect the majority of people to keep to themselves. However, be sure to familiarize yourself with the local customs and observe the behaviors and actions of the locals so you can navigate through the streets safely.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Germany is generally a safe country with a strong law enforcement presence. Petty crimes like pickpocketing or purse snatching are relatively low compared to other European countries. However, like any major city around the world, they can occur in crowded areas, tourist hotspots, or public transportation. So, while the risk isn't high, it's important to always stay vigilant and keep a close watch on your belongings.

Verden, Solo travel

The City center is really nice and you can have great walk at the river 'Aller', especially the playground there is nice for relaxing. Good train connection to Bremen, Hannover and Hamburg. There are some old classic houses and a gorgeous cathedral, the 'Verdener Dom'.

Berlin, Family travel

I went on Christmas holiday. It was pretty cold but there was all the Christmas decoration and the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. I was with my family and we stayed in an hostel. During the day I organized a sort of tour to visit the most famous thing like the Berlin wall. I loved that city.

Germany, Solo travel

In Cologne, apart from the cathedral, I couldn’t find much that drew tourists. Almost every European city has an old town and river, so it didn’t feel special. The metro network was a bit confusing, and I couldn’t find a magnet either.

Frankfurt, Solo travel

I didn’t feel safe. In Frankfurt there are many criminals, prostitutes and drug dealers especially near the airport, train stations and famous hotels. I was nearly got attacked by a stranger who was doing a strip dance in the middle of the street.

Berlin, Solo travel

Hey! I’ve been in Berlin twice. The 1st one was in November. For my perspective, Berlin is expensive. The hotels are expensive actually. I stayed at leonardo hotel Berlin mitte, it was brilliant and worth of money but still expensive! I went to see my friend but I was only with him at nights. During the day I was feeling safe, but I think at nights it’s a bit scary for a girl to be alone. The food was ok.. some restaurants were really good and some others not, but you can see reviews before you go everywhere

Berlin, Group travel

We stayed at Neohostel which I liked by the way. Every morning we had a buffet breakfast. The city was beautiful. I went to the Innotrans exhibition which I really enjoyed and the people there were very nice too.Check out the exhibition, the next one will be in 2026 and I really enjoyed it, maybe you will too. Besides Berlin, I was also in Erlen and Erlensee, a fantastic place. Germany, I will definitely go again.☺️

Hamburg

I am not afraid to go our at night or in the evening. It is overall safe and yes, as a big city also Hamburg has the streets or distinct where i recommend normal human thinking to avoid but overall i was never afraid of getting around Hamburg also during the evening or night time.
