Safety:Very safe

Cambridge is a quite safe destination for solo female travelers. The crime rate is generally low, especially in comparison to larger UK cities. The city has a serene atmosphere and is well-policed, providing a feeling of safety even at night. People are usually helpful and polite. However, like anywhere, it's always important to stay aware of your surroundings and take general safety precautions.

Transport:Easy

Cambridge is relatively compact and easy to navigate on foot. Bike rentals are also common and a great way to see the university city. Public transportation, including buses, is available and efficiently covers most areas. It can be crowded during peak hours, but generally reliable. However, driving is not recommended due to the city's approach to eco-friendliness and parking can often be challenging.

Things to do:Interesting

Cambridge is a delightful destination with numerous activities to engage in. Aside from being a prestigious education hub, the city boasts a wealth of history, stunning architecture, quaint streets, and beautiful natural settings to explore. For solo female travelers who love learning, museums like the Fitzwilliam offer vast collections of art and antiquities. A traditional punt down the River Cam provides lovely views of Cambridge University and its historic colleges. Don't forget to make a visit to the enchanting Cambridge Botanic Garden. Dining and shopping options are also varied and plentiful in this city.

Food:Above average

The food scene in Cambridge is quite diverse, reflecting its cosmopolitan atmosphere. You can find various cuisines from around the world, including Indian, Italian, Thai, Middle Eastern, and English traditional food. The quality is very good, particularly noting the freshness of ingredients used. Vegetarian and vegan options are also easily available. However, it's somewhat pricey, especially in and near the city center. Overall, the food scene in Cambridge offers an enjoyable culinary experience.

Budget:Moderate

Cambridge is moderately budget-friendly. While it's cheaper than London, dining and attractions can still be quite expensive. However, there are several free activities, such as the numerous parks and free museums. Accommodation can be on the pricier side, but can be mitigated by booking in advance or opting for budget-friendly options like hostels or Airbnb. It's possible to enjoy the city on a budget by planning ahead and making careful choices.

Is Cambridge worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I went to Cambridge to study for a week. it was my first trip abroad and I was alone, as an anxious person I can say that Cambridge is safe, people are helpful and kind. it is a very popular place for tourists and students, full of parks and it's quite clean. it's easy to find your way around (except for the parks... they're all similar and I always got lost), I used the bus to move from one side of the city to the other, but it's also doable on foot, however the ticket didn't cost much. I was there to study in the morning, so I had breakfast and then went to class, during the afternoon I loved going to the bookshop (Waterstones) and ate at Byron's (the best burgers I've ever eaten). I often went to the park or visited nearby towns (for example, I saw Shakespeare's house). I had a budget of £100, and I came home with some left over. It's a truly beautiful place, I fell in love with it.

Solo travel experience

The university has a vibe of dignity. There was a former student sharing her studying experience and the history behind each of the school architecture, which was an unforgettable experience. I'm glad that I chose to go to Cambridge.
