Safety:Very safe

Lindau is generally renowned for its safety and hospitality. Being a popular tourist destination, local authorities ensure that the city remains secure both day and night. Also, the residents are known for their friendliness and helpfulness towards tourists. Petty crimes such as thefts and pickpocketing are sporadic, but as always, it is important to maintain basic safety precautions.

Transport:Very easy

As a compact island town in the Bavarian region, Lindau is extremely pedestrian-friendly. Because of its small size, it's possible to explore most of its attractions by foot. Navigating through its charming, medieval streets is straightforward and enjoyable, offering glimpses of stunning architecture and lake views. Besides walking, you can use bicycles, which are a common and convenient mode of transport. Language is typically not a barrier as English is widely spoken, particularly in tourist areas and hotels. Despite the absence of a local airport, its network of railways and buses smoothly connects it with other German cities and neighboring countries. Overall, moving around in Lindau is effortless and enriching.

Things to do:Interesting

Lindau is a charming city situated at the crossroads of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Not only will you enjoy the stunning natural beauty of Lake Constance and panoramic views of the nearby Alps, but also a range of cultural and historical attractions. You could walk around the enchanting Old Town, marvel at medieval architecture, visit lighthouses and churches or bask in the abundance of picturesque spots. However, while it offers a peaceful and slowed down experience, thrill and adventure activities may not be as extensive, making it pertinent for those who appreciate more relaxed holidays.

Food:Above average

Lindau offers a pleasant mix of traditional Bavarian cuisine along with diverse international options. Local food markets are a delight with a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, and specialities. Vegetarians and vegans might find options a bit limited, however, with some effort, they can find eateries catering to their needs. Glamorous lakeside dining experiences with fish and seafood dishes, as well as hearty German staples, are widely available. The wine and beer quality is exceptional.

Budget:Moderate

Lindau stands at a moderate level of budget-friendliness. While it is cheaper than some other German cities, everyday expenses like food and transportation can add up. However, accommodations are reasonable, and there are plenty of free or low-cost attractions to enjoy, such as the beautiful Lake Constance and the historical town.

Is Lindau worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I feel safe and it is very easy to travel by train. In Sommer it is a little full. But the atmosphere is amazing. You can eat Eis cream, take a cafe and go around through a small corner. I love Lindau very much!
