Is Edmonton safe for solo female travelers?

Edmonton is generally a secure city with a low crime rate. As a solo female traveler, you'd feel quite comfortable due to the receptive locals and the city's well-organized infrastructure. However, it is always recommended to exercise usual caution, especially during late nights and in isolated areas.

How safe is Edmonton for solo female travelers?

Solo travel

Edmonton is a nice city. It has the river valley, which is by far my favourite aspect of Edmonton. It also has West Edmonton Mall, which is a man awesome experience when visiting as a tourist. It has a waterpark, amusement park, ice rink, arcade, movie theatre, marine centre, go-carts, bowling, casino, hotel, etc. The biggest issue with Edmonton currently is the crime, especially on public transport. During busy hours you should be fine, but drug use and homelessness is a huge problem at ETS stations, LRT train cars, and around most malls in the city.

I've never had any serious safety concerns while living in Edmonton. I've been lucky that I've never had anything stolen from me. I've also never been seriously hurt while living here. I have been taking transit my whole life and know the city well by transit.

I live in a quiet residential neighborhood far from downtown edmonton, and I feel very safe here. even when I’ve spent time in the city center during the day or walked around busy areas in the evening, I’ve always felt comfortable and safe. just staying aware of my surroundings, as anywhere

I wouldn't walk alone after dark in many areas in Edmonton, and i would be careful with leaving drinks unattended at bars. I have been sexually harassed, (minorly) sexually assaulted, and followed by predators many times in the whyte ave/downtown areas. I have also been sexually harassed by uber drivers in Edmonton. Luckily i know the city very well and have lots of friends and family here, and there are usually bystanders that will come help if they notice any trouble.

About me

Hello! My name is Hannah, I am a 27y/o female currently living in rural Alberta, Canada. I am an extroverted introvert, I love spending time alone at home but I also love travelling and making new connections! Seeing the world and capturing it through my camera brings me a lot of joy, and I love editing photos and videos for my IG and TT pages. Art, music and travelling are my biggest passions. I am working on becoming a full time traveller, but small trips a few times a year is where I’m at right now. I love nature, slow days, no plans, and just going with the flow of how I feel that day. I am quite spiritual, I love deep conversations about the universe and everything in it. ✨ I’d love to meet like-minded women to share experiences with—whether that’s exploring a new city, chasing sunsets on the beach, hiking in nature, or just relaxing with good food and good company. If you’re easygoing, open-minded, and love meaningful connections, we’ll get along beautifully! 🌍💫
