I was traveling with a group and still got approached by people with questionable intents, some beggars who were rude as well, so I wouldn’t say it’s entirely safe for solo traveling. Only in certain areas though, like alleys and I experienced it along Chinatown. During the day, much better, so many lively people. They still wanted to speak English so that was a relief. Did not get to interact much with the locals, unfortunately. I loved visiting Old Montreal, touristy but worth it. I had the...

I absolutely loved my trip to Montreal. I felt very safe and appreciated how organized and walkable the city was. The bike lanes were fantastic, making it easy to explore sustainably. Montreal’s diverse attractions, beautiful architecture, and environmentally conscious vibe really resonated with me. Plus, the variety of restaurants offered such a rich cultural experience. It’s truly a stunning and inspiring city. Total cost is approximately $1,000.

I think Montreal is a pretty safe city, i have lived my whole life in montreal; the metro system is used by a big part of the population, especially students and people working downtown, so it is always busy and there are security and police walking around often. Going out as a teenager girl very rarely felt unsafe and tho in the last couple of years the number of homeless people has gone up, incident are generally not aimed towards the travelers on the metro.
Posted: March 16, 2026Montreal is, overall, a very safe city. I've walked home at night after parties and never had any issues! Of course, you still need to be careful about your surroundings, but you can breathe and not fear being cat-called at every block!
Posted: February 27, 2026I’d avoid the hot neighbourhoods (St-Michel, Hochelaga, some areas in downtown Montreal) at night. Some homeless people can be very insisting and pushy and you might want to watch out for that. I wouldn’t suggest taking the metro alone after midnight.

The winter in Montreal is a little too much for me to handle. Haha. Always looking forward to meeting like-minded travellers.
