I traveled solo to Canada and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I spent three months between Edmonton, Banff, and Calgary, and honestly… the landscapes completely blew my mind. Everything feels so safe — there’s literally no sense of insecurity, even when you’re on your own. And the best part is that I didn’t even pay for accommodation, because I was doing volunteer house-sitting and pet-sitting. Banff especially was magical. Canada is definitely a place I’d go back to a thousand times
Posted: December 1, 2025Toronto is such a beautiful city with an amazing atmosphere! I stayed with family in Rosedale during July and the weather was incredible. I never once felt unsafe during my visit, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming!

Modern and clean city with plenty to do during the Summer. Lots of events, concerts, festivals going on for the whole period. Large cosmopolitan city so it's easy to meet people or travel buddies, if you're open to it. Had the most wonderful meal at Alo Bar. Love the amount of ice cream shops too.

I have traveled to Toronto 3 times recently, solo and with a friend. Most recently was for Caribana, celebrating Caribbean culture. There were many events taking place. Though I am not Caribbean, it was open to everyone. Driving in city wasn't too bad, though I am not used to street cars or light rails. Felt very safe and very diverse. Food was good. Didn't have too much Canadian only food but the Beaver Tails. Night life was great!
Posted: October 17, 2025Our trip was amazing! If you want to experience a piece of Canadian wilderness, this is your sign to visit! The park has campsites, yurts, lodges, and resorts, but my group stayed in Huntsville and drove over. I would recommend the portage store, logging museum, and visitor centre. We didn't see moose, but we did see loons!

I feel very comfortable walking around and exploring the surrounding areas of the city, I avoid being alone downtown too much especially at night as that's where most of the petty crime and homelessness occurs, surrounding towns and city's are very safe and welcoming eg: St Albert, Sherwood park, Spruce grove. Further from the city centre the more rural it gets but also less crime or theft. Overall I have never had anything bad happen in 15 years:)

It’s usually pretty safe, walking alone at night is still okay I’ve always done it. There’s a lot of homeless around Rideau but as long as you don’t engage or look like you know where you’re going they won’t bother you. Usually they just ask for food.
Posted: December 22, 2025Thunder Bay is not overall unsafe but there are gang and drug-related crimes, corrupt police and racism prevalent. That being said, it's not worth missing out on all the cute downtown destinations or the beauty of the outdoors in this area.

North Vancouver is in general a safe and quiet place to be. Peaceful on the trails. Close to mountains for skiing and hiking, I've never felt unsafe in North Vancouver and I have lived for over 5 years. Vancouver downtown can be unsafe at times.
Posted: December 11, 2025St. John’s is a relatively safe city if you use common sense. Most violent crimes are related to participating in other criminal activities. When visiting use the same common sense that you would in any other city and you should be completely fine!

I am a free spirited woman who loves to travel and meet new friends from around the globe. I truly believe that our world is so small in its vastness. People share more similarities than we initially think, so we should appreciate our differences because they bring something new to the table. I love learning about new things and Couchsurfing gives you the most beautiful opportunities to learn about new people. Some of my best travel memories have been by staying with a local, or hosting. For example, when I stayed in Lille, France, I arrived on a Thursday and my host was going to their community hall cultural dance and invited my friend and I to join in. So that night I got to learn old French line dancing. I could have never experienced this if I didn’t stay with a local. That’s why, when I travel, I try to stay with as many locals, so I can have some more genuine connections while traveling. I am very respectful and friendly and I can’t wait to make more friends in new places 🤍✈️
