Is Calgary Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Calgary is a very safe city by international standards. Violent crime is rare and it tends not to be random. The downtown area and other tourist places are well lit and busy, even late into the night. Public transport is well regulated, and Canadian people are generally friendly, helpful, and respectful. Still, it is always important to apply common sense, especially during the night and in less crowded places, as you would in any other city.

Calgary is generally a safe city, even for solo female travelers moving around at night. The downtown area is well-lit and typically bustling with activity, even late into the night. However, like any city, there are certain neighborhoods that may pose a higher risk, especially if you're walking alone. Therefore, always follow basic yet important safety guidelines: Stay in well-lit areas, avoid deserted streets, and always be aware of your surroundings. Despite these precautions, Calgary ranks as one of the safer cities in Canada.
Public transportation:

I would safe it’s a small city..a million people and I walk everywhere. It’s a fairly small and friendly city. There are Ubers and Lyft as well and cheap. The downtown is small so easy to get around.

There are so many safe spaces and neighborhoods in Calgary. Common sense and a good tour guide are all you need. I've been here for 30 years and have also lived in Vancouver and Toronto. Calgary is by far my fave city!

About Me

Hi girls! I’m Marin - I was raised in the Canadian Rockies & foothills and I now spend my summers working in Banff National Park and my winters traveling the world! When I am between the two, I stay with my family in my hometown of Calgary. I’m a very social person at heart but can sometimes take a minute to get out of my shell. My favourite part of traveling is meeting new friends around the world, so I’m thrilled to be on this app! I am usually able to host in Calgary and am almost always free to meet up and do activities in Calgary or Canmore/Banff! I have more hobbies than I can count, ranging from making stained glass and embroidery art, to partying and playing video games. I also love to hike and be in nature! To be honest I’m perfectly happy to do almost anything & it’s very difficult for me to be bored. I’d love to meet you and make some fun memories together!! I am coming to Europe for the first time at the end of March! I’ll be there for 2-3 months with almost no plan aside from slowly making my way from west to east! If you’re around, send me a message :D
