How safe is Calgary?

Calgary is a safe city, easy to go around doesn't matter the time of the day. We do have homeless people in the downtown area, however not close to my home. Humans tend to be quite respectful, polite and mindful of people's boundaries.

Calgary is a beautiful city, like most, you stay away from the seedy areas. There's a big river, lots of pubs and restaurants and big parks. Summer is my preference here as you can enjoy the outdoors like floating down the river, easy access to the mountains for white water rafting, hiking, rock climbing mountain biking etc.

Calgary in general is a very safe area for tourists and local! However, there are certain places you might wanna avoid like downtown and north east regions near hospitals and shelters. Transit is fairly safe too!

Like most cities in the world there are “good” and “bad” parts of town, but overall I have never been afraid for my safety or harassed beyond a catcall maybe once or twice a year. Most of my girlfriends feel the same way! I walk alone downtown frequently with no issues. I do take caution when walking in the dark and avoid it if I can, but I have never been attacked nor do I know anyone personally who has. Basic caution as a woman is advised, but you’ll almost certainly be alright. I’m not saying crime never happens, but it’s definitely less common than many places. Homelessness has been on the rise with increasing housing costs, so it is common to see houseless people on the streets or on public transit, but they’re just going about their day and minding their business just like everyone else. Violence is very rare, although I have seen some interesting verbal situations where it’s clear maybe the people aren’t totally sober. In general Calgary is a very safe place and in growing up here my whole life, I’ve never had major issues. People here are very nice too, so if you do have a problem or need help, chances are the closest stranger would have your back.

I do feel that Calgary is one of the more safer cities that I have lived in and travelled to. I’m not fairly too concerned about anything bad happening to me as the crime rate is low here. I even go for a walk in the dark every night in my community, that being said I do live in a gated community.

Typical large north American city: it is generally safe but its best to practice common sense actions. This includes not being too drunk at night, taking drinks directly from the bartenders if a drink is purchased for you, etc

Generally safe as a solo female, especially in comparison to other American and Canadian cities. Low crime and robbery, safe to walk in almost all areas alone. Public transit is declining but still safe

Calgary is quite a safe city for solo travelers and women in general. The police are very friendly and there are peace officers across major traffic areas (especially in downtown). It’s really safe to walk around the neighborhood even late at night

Calgary is very safe! There are some spots downtown to stay away from at night due to the unhoused population, but I have never had a bad experience. Some of the men in nightclubs can hit on you pretty strong, but bouncers do a decent job removing men.

Calgary is a relatively safe city. Like many places I have noticed downtown doesn't feel aa safe as it did before COVID, but during the day and early evening still feels pretty safe. Certain areas should be avoided when alone or at night, transit is less safe than it used to be but safer than in many other places I have travelled.
