How safe is Minneapolis?

It depends on where you are. My neighborhood feels pretty safe. I walk alone at night sometimes and sleep with my window cracked open some nights. Other parts of the city are not safe. I’ve been catcalled a few times. I’ve never taken public transit as I have a car.

I’ve never felt unsafe in Minneapolis or St. Paul during the day, unless around the main metro transit areas. Most metro areas are fine if you don’t talk to anyone, and just mind your own business, but I don’t think this area is any less safe than any other large city.

It is a relatively safe city, but you need to use caution when walking alone at night. Certain areas are safer than others. Gun violence is on the rise, but that is everywhere in the United States. Public transportation in Minneapolis is not great.

Some areas are safer than others. I live in uptown and it is relatively safe despite the lore. There’s been a lot of fear mongering after the protests but truthfully uptown isn’t bad. There’s a ton of small businesses to explore and support and it’s overall a lot of fun!

Minneapolis (at least the campus) is a fairly safe area! I would stay away from Dinkytown after dark, but otherwise, I’ve felt fairly safe when walking around here and the suburbs. South Minneapolis tends to get a bit more iffy.
