It can be very safe aside from certain people on the streets who are intoxicated or inebriated. Sometimes they can be harmful but not if you mind your business. Aside from this walking alone being alone has always felt completely fine to me.
Posted: August 10, 2025San Francisco is generally safe. However, this can vary by neighborhood, and one can cross into different areas pretty quickly. There are some areas that are more dirty than unsafe per se, like the Tenderloin.

Generally a very safe city! I really never worry about any violence. The one thing to be careful about is if you have a car. You would want to make sure to not leave any bags or valuables in the car.

SF gets a really bad rap from the media. The city is beautiful and as a woman I truly feel safe in a majority of the neighborhoods. That being said staying diligent is important in any new city, but do not let the media intimidate you
Posted: July 7, 2025Every neighborhood has so many quirks and uniqueness to it, you will love exploring every part of SF. You can easily walk or public transit to most parts of the city. You can ask others for help or if you have any questions. The only neighborhood to be weary of is the Tenderloin.

I would recommend getting a rental car because it's just easier and you can go to different places faster. I really liked the Golden Gate Bridge and would recommend parking a little bit further away, there was a nice walk with great views from where we parked to the Bridge.
