Safe unless you are going to sketchy parts of towns/ counties. Use common sense like you do everywhere. Everyone minds their business and nice. I go solo around a lot and never feel unsafe or targeted.

I lived in North Carolina for a year, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the Appalachians. The forests and valleys are absolutely stunning! I recommend hiking around waterfalls, and walking near little creeks. Beautiful landscapes and nice people!
Posted: July 6, 2025I had a lot of fun! I went to Kill devil hills. There was a lot to do, but everything was pretty expensive. We stayed in an airbnb and I highly recommend. The food there was all amazing! It was very touristy
