How safe is Minneapolis?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

While Minneapolis is a city with lots to offer and generally perceived as safe, it's still recommended to exercise caution when walking alone at night. Like any urban area, the city has certain neighborhoods that may be riskier after dark. Therefore, it's advisable to stay in populated, well-lit areas, and avoid obscure side streets if possible. Using a ride-sharing app or public transportation can also be a safer option at nighttime.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Minneapolis is generally safe, boasting a robust network of buses, light rail, and commuter trains. However, like any urban area, it is always important to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings, especially during late-night hours. Common-sense safety precautions, such as avoiding deserted stops and keeping your belongings secured, will generally ensure a safe experience.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Minneapolis tends to have a relatively respectful street culture. While occasional instances of street harassment do happen, as they can anywhere, many women recount their experiences as solo travellers in the city as largely unintrusive. However, it's crucial to always stay aware of your surroundings, especially during late-night hours or in less populous areas.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Minneapolis, in general, is a fairly safe city, but like any major urban area, petty crimes such as pickpocketing, bag snatching, or vandalism can occur. Certain areas have a higher incidence of these crimes, particularly in crowded public spaces and tourist-heavy downtown regions. Therefore, it's advisable to stay vigilant, look after your belongings, and preferably not flaunt high-value items openly.

Minneapolis is a fairy safe spot if you’re with groups! I’ve never walked around alone nor do I recommend it! I mostly stay away from the cities after dark, with all the bars and clubs around, the streets can get pretty crowded.

It depends on where you are. My neighborhood feels pretty safe. I walk alone at night sometimes and sleep with my window cracked open some nights. Other parts of the city are not safe. I’ve been catcalled a few times. I’ve never taken public transit as I have a car.
