Houston is relatively safe as long as you’re not doing anything like going to the botanical gardens at 10 o’clock at night and walking through there by yourself and I would even consider it unsafe to walk with two more people just because it’s late at night and is the botanical gardens close to downtown
Posted: October 11, 2024There a lot of nice areas where it feels safe. But there are also a lot of areas that don’t feel safe. Some in the city and some outside the city. There are a some homeless people are the city. I wouldn’t suggest walking around alone at night

New to Houston but the Galleria mall area is pretty safe. Lots of museums and restaurants. May want to avoid driving during rush hour time, 10 minute drive can turn out to be 30 minutes. Lots of parks to do hiking too.
Posted: September 2, 2024I lived in Katy area its pretty safe but Chinatown is bad. I have lived in Katy for about 5 years. I went to katy community college there, never had issues. I went to the community College in southwest campus and got groped by a crackhead

I have lived in Houston all of my life. I personally believe it to be safe. I’ve lived all over Houston and I travel throughout the city for work. There are a lot of people that are willing and able to help.

Houston is pretty safe for solo travels for the most part . Of course there are some areas where I wouldn’t go alone at night (I.e North side near greens point area). We don’t have the best public transport , but you can around easily with Uber or Lyft.
Posted: July 2, 2024Houston is a HUGE city, both population and area-wise. Naturally, some areas are safer than others. For someone traveling here, I would give the typical advice: stay in "nicer" areas, don't walk in unfamiliar places at night (excluding highly populated dining/retail/entertainment spots), choose a car service over public transport if your budget allows, explore with a group or at least a friend if possible. We have a large homeless population that isn't shy about approaching anyone to ask for help; they are generally harmless but can cause uncomfortable situations at times. Best to just avoid eye contact and not respond (keep your airpods in and visible!)

Houston can be very safe, but it can also feel very unsafe depending on the neighborhood you’re in and what you are doing. Me personally I have had my car broken into twice at my apartment complex (broken car window, only cash stolen). This type of crime can happen ANYWHERE in the city unfortunately, even if you have nothing of value visible. I have never experienced sexual harassment or physical violence, but I know it can happen (as in most big cities). Houston is not exactly walkable, so I am not sure how safe it may be but simply walking around the neighborhood or the drinking areas I have never felt unsafe.

There are different areas of Houston! Midtown, Montrose, Heights, River Oaks have always felt safe to me and it’s important to be aware of your surroundings. Downtown can make you feel unsafe due to a higher population of homeless people and no law enforcement presence. For a lady traveling by herself stick to the areas I recommended above.
Posted: June 5, 2024Houston is a very safe city, especially for its size. I walk my dog all hours of the day and night, and I live Downtown. Now, I do carry my pistola, pero I don't imagine ever needing to use it. Overall, unless you live a lifestyle that carries a reputación of violence and criminality, you'll be perfectly fine.
