Is Houston Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Houston is a medium-safe city for solo female travelers. Like many large cities, it has its safe and unsafe neighborhoods. During the day, the downtown areas and tourist spots are generally safe and well patrolled. However, it's not advisable for women traveling alone to explore unknown suburban districts especially at night. Using common sense and staying aware of your surroundings can make your stay safer. Public transport is generally okay but it's recommended to use trusted ride service, especially for night travel.

Houston is fairly safe… don’t walk alone. You can party safely at night just as with any city take your own precautions. I go out most weekends and haven’t had anything crazy happen, I just don’t go to south side to party…

Suburbs are safe, in the city you must keep your head on a swivel. Women should not be alone after dark. Violent crime and property crime are fairly high. Stay out of the “wards”. If you are going out at night bring mace and 2+ friends. Safety in numbers
