Houston is like any other large city as far as safety goes. Be smart about your surroundings and having valuables out. The city is not really walkable, so driving/Uber is a must. Most of the touristy areas will be fine.
Posted: April 20, 2026Houston feels more safe than many large cities. There are occasional expected car break ins, but general situational awareness is fine especially during the day. Note that public transit ridership is low after dark.

I’ve lived in Houston a long time. I wouldn’t feel safe walking at night in isolated areas but would feel safe walking in areas where there are a lot of people. But please, lock your car doors and don’t leave anything in sight in your car.

Houston is fairly safe… don’t walk alone. You can party safely at night just as with any city take your own precautions. I go out most weekends and haven’t had anything crazy happen, I just don’t go to south side to party…
