Recent stabbings have made me more scared about walking late at night. Overall it’s not too bad but people will definitely harass you and follow you sometimes. There’s a large homeless population so there’s needles everywhere.
Posted: February 12, 2025I worry more about my property being taken for vandalized. Although, there have been recent physical attacks on strangers. I would recommend being aware of surroundings when alone or even with others. There are certain neighborhoods to avoid and fun places that aren’t downtown. Downtown has homeless and drug addicts, it’s worse than imagined.
Posted: January 29, 2025Some areas of Denver are very nice and safe. Some are dangerous and unsafe. It's important to know where to go in the city. Otherwise, Denver is a really cool City filled with lots of artistic attractions.

Certain parts of the city are safe (as most places). My worry for being assaulted stems from average worry as a woman and is not based specifically on Denver — I would say the same in almost every city. But for the most part I feel safe walking home from work or walking around by myself. It’s only natural for us to be cautious anywhere we go.

Denver is a big city, so that must be taken into account. Honestly though, as long as you take proper precautions that you would take anytime while traveling or being in a big city then you should be fine. Public transport is safe, but if you are going at night I would recommend not going alone. Also, it is the US and guns are legal, so keep in mind that if you watch the local news there will likely be reports of gun violence.
Posted: December 29, 2024Denver is relatively safe. I’d say if you drive in Denver you’ll be fine. Staying out too late could be a problem, but really only on public transportation. I’ve always felt safe going out with friends, though.
Posted: October 16, 2024For a big city it is easy to get from place to place on my own almost always feeling safe. My recommendation would be to always research the part of Denver you are traveling to, some are safer than others.
Posted: August 21, 2024Overall I feel very safe around Denver, especially in the more touristy areas. Rino, lodo, and lohi are all very well lit and walkable. I used to live in Rino, and sometimes the homeless people down there gave me issues (cat calling, one time a guy threw rocks at me while I was walking my dog at 3pm) but it is usually easy to avoid those situations as long as you are aware!
Posted: August 13, 2024I believe Denver is relatively safe for a big city in the US. As with any big city in the US, I think it’s important to stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings. Car break-in’s are very common in Denver so do not leave your belongings in your car.
Posted: June 27, 2024Depends on what part of denver you are in. Downtown denver not very safe. Suburbs kind of safe. I would say denver overall is not the safest. Lots of homeless. Going to the mountain towns very nice.
Posted: June 24, 2024I mainly went to Arapaho National Forest to summit my first 14er! It was definitely a risk so for anyone looking to summit a 14er, I highly recommend later in the summer as the weather won't be as volatile. Otherwise, Denver as a city was a blast if you love beer and nature! Fun breweries are all throughout the city, as well as since pretty neat coffee shops!

Hello, hi! I recently made the jump and started traveling internationally last year. I'm a Californian who lives in Denver now. I've frequented France, Portugal, been through Spain and have traveled to London. Local culture is a big must for me. I like experiencing new foods and seeking out bookstores and coffee houses.
