How safe is Baltimore?

I feel like Baltimore is safe, just be nice and respectful. I wouldn’t be out at 3 in the morning without a friend and way to get home, but people are generally trustworthy. There is always the risk of creepy men, but people usually police themselves.

Generally safe during daytime- watch for large groups of guys on scooters and dirt bikes downtown, they sometimes harass passersby. Avoid responding if catcalled, and if you have to walk alone at night, I’d suggest having some sort of protection with you (pepper spray, whistle, etc.). For nightlife, stick to Federal Hill, Fells Point, Canton, or Mt. Vernon. Ubers/Lyft are generally safe and readily available/inexpensive, just make sure to take standard precautions with those. We have ‘squeegee boys’ that wait by some stoplights to squeegee your windshield. If you don’t have money to give to them (some have venmo), politely decline. They’re persistent, it will take a couple of ‘no’s’ to get them to leave, but they will leave.

Quite frightening and risky to be alone at night in downtown Baltimore. But during the day, it feels very safe and there are a ton of fun things to do! Just be aware that public transit is virtually nonexistent so you’ll have to Uber, drive or walk everywhere.

Depends on the neighborhood but I wouldn’t walk around at night with my head buried in my phone and headphones on. I know quite a few people women and women who have been jumped or robbed walking home from work in neighborhoods that are considered safe.

Is Baltimore worth visiting?

I traveled by car from New England and stayed at an Airbnb in Hampden. Nice host, nice place, easy to find parking. I understand North Ave is dicey so I took an Uber to see downtown and the museums. Humid weather but walkable, and people are perfectly friendly. Try staying central to avoid the dicey areas.
