I've lived here since I was 13 and never had any issues, I'm pretty safe and tend to stay with friends and stick to the main roads and stuff, but I've never had any issues. There's some crackheads and homeless people but they don't tend to hassle you. No one really talks to you or approaches you in the streets, there tends to be police or security out whenever it's busy in the city centre. Obviously it depends what part of Birmingham you go to but the public transport is decent and so are Ubers if you can afford it or have people to split it with.

Okay in the day time. Less so at night. When I am out and about at night, I will have to stay high alert, watch surrounding. I will try to avoid staying out after 11pm as I don’t feel safe enough to do so.
Posted: June 11, 2025Great city in certain parts. Some very safe bars with great staff and patrons who will look out for people in digbeth and jewelry quarter area. Quite different on broad Street especially with taxi drivers trying to pick up lone women without booking.

Birmingham is a big city, and with that naturally comes crime. I myself dont live in the best of areas but I feel pretty okay walking around during the night. I love birmingham and it's my home. I'm aware that there's still crime about but if you arent actively looking for that then it can be easily avoided.
Posted: May 12, 2025Pretty safe in the daytime. At night, be cautious as you would normally, keep your valuables safely with you. There will be a lot of catcalling and men trying to flirt, I find it's best to ignore and keep walking. Sometimes I walk into a shop if feeling unsafe.
Posted: May 12, 2025For the most part, if you do the regular things we do in any larger city, you’ll be fine. It’s not as bad as Paris or Rome or any of the incredibly large cities though. Just be aware of people walking around you, keep your eyes open and don’t walk down alleys alone and you will be fine.

I visited Birmingham with my mom and baby, and while it felt pretty safe overall, I was honestly underwhelmed. There were a lot of homeless people around, and the city felt very dirty, especially on the weekends. Airbnb rentals were surprisingly expensive, and while the food wasn’t bad, it was pretty average and not as affordable as I expected. The tourist attractions and historic sites were free, which was nice, but they didn’t really stand out. For 9 days, we spent around £2000, and it just didn’t feel worth it. I’ve never felt this unimpressed by a city before.
Posted: April 11, 2025Birmingham is big city a bit chaotic but very well connected by public transport. The Victoria square and the library are great places to spend the afternoon. Birmingham is multicultural so you cam also find great food from all around the world
