I’ve been staying in Cardiff for about three months. I stay at a student accommodation so I would say that does make it much safer because of all the security. But overall, since Cardiff is a purely residential area and it’s a lot of students because of the Univeristy, it’s quite safe and progressive. People are nice, I’ve never had a bad experience while being alone. Everyone has been quite respectful.
Posted: December 30, 2024Cardiff is a really friendly city that is well suited for solo female travellers. There’s plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and good public transport links. Cardiff is a good place to stay to see lots of wales.
Posted: December 16, 2024Cardiff is a fairly safe city, in general, people are very friendly, depending on the region you are visiting, some areas have a higher crime and violence rate, where others, including the city centre, are mostly safe to travel solo.
Posted: June 27, 2024i love cardiff. as (unfortunately) an american woman i am used to the constant threat of violence everywhere. i never feel truly safe especially since guns can be an are anywhere. i’ve never felt scared or unsafe in cardiff and have walked alone at various times in the night
Posted: June 27, 2024As a female living in Cardiff all her life, i’d say my city is pretty safe for solo female travellers. As with all places, there are some areas on the outskirts of the city centre i’d stay away from as they can be a bit rough/dodgy, and as a female i wouldn’t walk alone at night anywhere including my city. But day time in Cardiff city centre, is great and the amount of people bring a feeling of safety also. Unfortunately, there is an issue with homelessness and drink/drug users, which you may see in the city centre but don’t tend to cause too many issues and don’t make you feel necessarily unsafe. Transport in Cardiff is great, also very safe.
Posted: June 10, 2024Decent nightlife scene for a small city, and felt safe walking alone at night there, although I would always prefer a taxi or cycle back home. During the day (and if you can, go on a 6 nations game day) it's a good atmosphere in the city - most neighbourhoods are accessible by walking and cycling is easy as it is so flat.

Cardiff is a great place to visit, friendly people and happy to help. It’s a safe place overall, but like any other town/city, just be a bit careful at night or near clubs etc make sure you’re in the public
Posted: April 10, 2024I had lived there for 3 years for my studies and felt pretty safe. I felt very safe during the day. However, I was always careful when walking around the city late in the night, especially when most of the public weren't around and it was just random drunkards on the streets. I tried to avoid certain alleyways during the night as well. Otherwise, I would say it's a safe city for solo female travellers.
Posted: March 27, 2024Cardiff city centre feels very safe with many people always around. Although some streets outside the centre can feel more unsafe walking alone at night. I’d suggest following main roads with street lights and walking with others when possible outside the centre.

I visited Wales for the first time this year. I only managed to see Cardiff, but I liked this city much more than I expected. I was also shocked at how affordable prices were there compared to many other places, especially considering that I came from London.

Hi, I am Haripriya. I am currently in university pursuing my masters in psychology. I recently visited some cities in the UK alone and it has been one of the most fulfilling feelings I’ve felt in my life. Hence I want to encourage other girls and myself to travel alone more often💗
