If you stay smart and avoid dark, empty places you’ll be ok. Being aware of your surroundings and not “looking lost” is important or you’ll be followed. Londoners avoid getting into other people’s problems so if you feel unsafe by someone, look directly at the people around you and actively ask for help. People will try to stay out of others personal issues as the assume you might know each other.

I grew up in the city so I have the advantage of looking like I know my way round. London is high in knife crime and I have friends who have been mugged. Overall I’ve felt safest when travelling with a male friend but I just know the streets to avoid. This being said, safety has never tainted my love of London and I still fully embrace this beautiful city

London can be safe but you need to know how to handle the dodgy characters. Always be very polite but firm, otherwise you may find yourself in unsafe situations. Don’t go out alone at night especially to bars and clubs, spiking is a big problem in the UK. For the most part if you aren’t involved with any gang members or in gang areas you don’t have to be too worried about stabbings. Stabbings are unfortunately common but for the most part it is between gang affairs and ‘normal people’ are rarely affected.

London is a fairly safe city during the day, very popular with tourists so not much crime happens and if so, then it may happen in areas where crime is common like Croydon or Peckham. Central London (where all the attractions are) is quite safe, but never leave your belongings unattended and keep an eye on your surroundings and bags in case. Try not to stay out till dark, simply because of drunk people and people on drugs. Violent crime isn’t too common but try to avoid roadmen and people who look like junkies!
Posted: April 27, 2025Depends on the area. Most places aren't that safe at late night. West London is likely the safest. Central London is where you have to be careful of your belongings. I rarely go to East London, but whenever I'm there, I feel not as safe as West London.
Posted: April 27, 2025Depends solely on the area, but mugging and phone snatching is basically a rite of passage that even the police does nothing about. In terms of gendered violence, it isn’t as much of a concern, but there have been a few instances of drunk/ drugged up homeless men following girls from tube stations.

It really depends on the aerea so it’s quite difficult to judge, that said, crimes can happen anywhere no matter how safe you are being. I personally never experienced getting robbed but I hear lots of stories from friends where the time and the place didn’t matter. My advice for a safe night out is to be aware beforehand where are you in London, where is nearest tube station to night club or bar, consider if you can afford an uber before going out in certain places.

Areas vary but I've lived here all my life and I do majority of the time feel safe, it helps that it's very busy, and I always make sure to live close enough to a train station, like 10 minutes if that. There's so much public transport so different ways to get around and there's ways people around. Of course there's always Uber or bolt when needed but I do try where possible to use public transport even if it's late, just keep an eye on times depending on what you're taking but tubes and buses mostly run all night.
Posted: April 21, 2025Overall London is fairly safe. As with any metropolitan city, keep your wits about you and trust your instincts. Some areas can be less safe than others and usually a quick Google search can alert you to any dangers to watch out for and things like crime rates etc.
Posted: April 17, 2025I find it to be fairly safe. The only crime I really see is people getting their phone snatched but besides that I feel very safe walking alone at night. Public transport is also very safe. My friends and I have never had issues with sexual harassment

I loved my time in London. The people were soooo sweet. I used the underground to get to the National History Museum and I loved every bit of the experience. Loved the night view of the Thames River and the Tower Bridge. I tried a few restaurants around Tower Bridge and they were all very nice, considering I'm a vegetarian. I tried one of the tastiest pastas of my life at Ivy restaurant. The 14 Hills restaurant was a very rich experience as well.

I stayed at the trebovir hotel. Really good price for the area, safe, clean but cheap breackfast. I met my Japanese friend who is in England to study English. We visited Notting Hill, Victoria and Albert Museum, Bourough Market, Camden town, ... we had such luck with the weather! All sunny with around 20 25 degree.
