Leeds is safer than a lot of big cities in the UK. However, there are social issues, and the centre can be a little intimidating late at night. There are parts of the city that are considered to be no-go areas with a high crime rate and should be avoided at all costs
Posted: February 3, 2025Feel super safe in the day. Northeners are generally really friendly and helpful. By night in Central Leeds you do need to be wise if you're alone, and stick to lighted paths ideally. But theres a shared awareness, and care for women.

I have always been feeling safe walking around during nights, and public transport feels safety too. I never tried walking out during midnights, but it feels safe before 10/11 pm. There's always people around, and my accommodation area is quite and calm.
Posted: January 23, 2025It's quite safe in Leeds, but you still need to be careful. Keep your belongings safe and take care of yourself. However, people are really nice and you can call out for help if anything happens. Overall I feel safe.

Overall I think Leeds is a very safe city. Some parts of the suburbs are a bit rough but the city centre feels very safe. There are lots of streetlights in the centre and I've never had a problem walking home in the dark.
Posted: July 31, 2024North Leeds especially is very suburban and safe, full of families and 25-30yo professionals. Headingley and Burley are more studenty so arguably less safe from a break-in potential, but generally absolutely fine. Harehills is known as the roughest area of Leeds and is definitely the least safe.
Posted: June 3, 2024Leeds city centre is fairly safe, there are some unruly bars where you need to keep an eye on your drink but it is safe to walk around the city at night. There is an organisation that can help overnight on Fridays and Saturdays if you feel unsafe called Leeds Street Angels.
Posted: May 4, 2024Stayed in the city centre area, so everything is just convenient! Felt safe 100%! Was walking back to my hotel at about 2am and the streets were silent but the city lights were still on, I guess that the choice of hostel/hotel in the city centre helped with that :) You can go anywhere by just walking, they have a lot of stores, so I was mainly shopping for myself + souvenirs :)
