Geneva doesn't have a lot of bad/unsafe neighbourhood, especially on the left side. The only not so well known would be around Pâquis/Charmilles and out of the city, but these places are still quite calm. Unfortunately, the amount of drug addicts walking publicly is rising, which would be my highest worry. Overall, I'd say it's more than quite safe.

Geneva is very safe as is most of Switzerland. I'm a very anxious person so I always avoid being in "dangerous" situations (like walking home alone too late) but the times life gave me no choices everything was perfectly fine. I also think safety is being smart, do knowing the places to avoid at certain hours helps with feeling safer !
Posted: May 6, 2025Very safe for girls but I would rather not go to parks and some neighborhoods alone at night. During the day it's really safe, including public transportation. I've never been physically assaulted when going out
Posted: May 5, 2025I stayed in Geneva for an exchange semester, and it was a very pleasant experience! In the past, I heard some negative reviews from those who went on exchange at European universities due to safety issues, but it’s been very safe and calm here in Geneva! The people are all very nice, and they smile back to you! :) Still, it’s recommended to be careful in some areas of the city at night!

i think geneva is pretty safe, but like everywhere you will find its dose of freaks and weird people, and it also really depends on the areas ofc, but overall i think it's okay, i ve never been assaulted or such
Posted: April 25, 2025Honestly everyone is just so nice!!!! I don’t know french so i was worried when I first came here and couldn’t understand some things, but everyone was helpful and knew English well; they helped me at the grocery store, trains; even in the streets when i got lost!

Most places are okay, you can comfortably walk around without worrying about someone stealing your bag or phone. There are just a few neighbourhood I wouldn't go to alone at night, like near the train station.
Posted: April 12, 2025I've lived in Geneva all my life and it's a really safe city, as a girl you can walk alone at night without any problems, it's really chill and safe there is no places that you need to avoid or anything.
Posted: April 6, 2025Quite safe, haven't experienced incidents that have made me unsafe. I would avoid Grottes (drug peddlers), Paquis(red light area) and the area around the station at night if you're alone, it's a bit shady.

Geneva is one of the safest cities I’ve ever been to. I saw homeless people maybe twice for 6 months. I felt completely safe when I had to travel during the night time from the train station to my house.

Tip stay in france at the border. Annemasse is pretty close to geneva by tram and also by train. We used the tram. Restaurents and supermarkets are much cheaper. I love the botanical garden at geneva.

Egypt
Genava is my Hub, as far as I'm using easyjet (whuch is the cheapest one to fly from Egypt. I used to fly to GVA since August 1999 and I stayed there for the last 7 years as a UN accredited correspondant for Al-Ahram daily news paper. I have many friends there and I used to stay in their houses before heading to my destination in Europe.
