It is safe until a certain time. After that, I avoid any public places like parks or public transport. In a larger group, I feel safer. I don't do much alone at night.
Posted: January 20, 2025It’s relative safe in Basel but at night i would be careful. I live here and I’m scared at night when I’m alone at night. At Daytime it’s totally fine. Local transport is easy and totally safe.
Posted: January 20, 2025Basel is a very safe city where trams run until late in the morning, always with guards on. During the night there is also a lot of police cars driving around the main club/bar area. The danger is close to the river and the port during night: I suggest to always stays in the most popular spaces if you are a girl alone at night.

Basel is very safe! Although it is a city and there is always unpredictable people, I am very lucky to live in such a safe place! During the day I never have to think about my safety and during the night it‘s very safe to travel with my bike.

Switzerland as a whole is very safe and Basel is too. The biggest crimes in this city are bike thefts and also parcel thefts from mail boxes. So as a tourist you have nothing to worry about. It is a really safe and comfortable city
Posted: January 16, 2025One of the safest cities in the world - you can walk alone unharassed in virtually any part of the city at any time of day. The city is clean and beautiful - lots of beautiful walking paths and lovely cafes to sit and watch the world going by.
Posted: January 16, 2025It depens on where you are in the city. I'm usually on my bike and feel pretty safe. I live close to the train station. It normally feels okay to walk alone during night times. I never made bad experiences but have heard about some stories. So try to avoid walking around alone during the night. During the day I feel super safe.
Posted: January 14, 2025Another important aspect is the good lighting in public areas and the well-developed infrastructure, which makes it possible to get home safely even at night. In addition, there are numerous initiatives and organizations that are committed to women's safety and offer support. All these factors make Basel an inviting and safe place for young women.
Posted: January 5, 2025I grew up in a close village to the city and as i moved out, moved directly to the city. The worst thing that happened to me here (luckily)is that my bicycle got stolen multiple times … In general i really feel super safe in Basel. To give some examples: - i lost my old phones multiple times and they were given back (don’t know how it would have been if they would have been new, but still) - i walk to the midnight store to get a midnight snack alone in my pyjama, my phone and cash in my pocket without being scared - i cycle home from parties early in the morning alone and the only dangers thing is me because I’m drunk… 😅 - i sometimes go out dancing at night alone without being scared Of course there is everywhere a chance that something bad happens … but during my travels i realised how privileged i am security wise to live in switzerland! So keep your eyes open, communicate clearly what you want and what not, and don’t be scared to ask for help.

I feel like basel is a safe city but when you go partying there are many places where people spike the drinks with GHB, take care of yourself and don’t take drinks from strangers. It’s important to walk with someone on the phone when it’s dark if you feel safer then !

Basel is overall a very beautiful city and truly feels like a border town. The people are genuinely kind and helpful. However, Switzerland is unbelievably expensive. Since it’s a small city, you can explore all the main attractions in just two days, which is sufficient. Of course, I tried fondue and Swiss chocolate, as they’re famous there, and they were absolutely delicious—though, as I mentioned, incredibly pricey. Accommodation is also very expensive, but I was lucky to have a friend there, so I stayed with them. Overall, Basel is a safe and charming city.

Netherlands
We were in Basel for 2 days. Found the place to be expensive especially based on the foreign exchange rate...but we felt safe and loved the free public transport...it rained a lot but we still managed to walk the city..
