Generally Zurich is extremely safe. Of course there are places where you might prefer to not walk around at night alone as a women (certain places around the main train station, also Langstrasse) but even there it is very unlikely that something serious happens. If, then it should most probably only be someone strange that tries to talk to you, but normally it should not be too hard to escape the conversation. If something strange happens, try to get help from Swiss people, even though they are reserved, they are very friendly and will most probably help you to feel safe and not alone.

I'm living in Zurich for 5 years and lived in different locations. There are for sure places that are not that safe, but all in all, nothing ever happened to me or my female friends. I walk home by myself during every time of the day and night and feel safe. In public transportation it is possible to get in touch with drunk people or a little confused people, but I think it's like that in every metropolis or big city. If you don't want to feel slightly frightened don't go to "Langstrasse"- district. There are also a lot of bars, clubs and restaurants and it's hip, but not only hip. I've lived there for over a year, I know what I'm talking about 😉
Posted: May 3, 2025Zurich changed a lot the last years and its getting more unsafe (eg got date rape drugs in a bar from a bartender - thankfully friends protected me). But: also the amount of security staff, especially in trains during day and night, also raised a lot! Like all other places in the world: stay vigilant and dont meet up with strangers in unknown places.

I think the main routes are very safe. But there are certain streets like „Langstrasse“ where I wouldn‘t go alone after dark. Public transport is very safe, often there are securities on board (just in case).
Posted: May 1, 2025During the day you don't have to worry about safety in Zurich. There's no problem with pickpockets and public transport is really very safe. During the night if you stay out of Langstrasse (clubbing district) you'll get home safely also when walking home alone. There are a lot of street lights so you're never walking in the dark in the city. Also public transport in the evening and during the night is very safe. I do keep an eye on my surroundings when walking home at night but nothing ever happened to me or my friends and I never feel unsafe.

Zurich is rich (=people have a lot of money) and due to that there is a big drug scene in the city (= people have enough money to spend on lots of drugs). Most of these drugs are consumed at train stations, public parks or other places in the suburbs of the city. I avoid being around these places in the evening/night, as people who are on drugs can be unpredictable and could do something to you. Don't walk alone in those places or just stay away from them. Otherwise I feel very safe in Zurich.
Posted: April 30, 2025Zurich is pretty safe. Public transport is safe to use, there are designated seats in some busses for women at night, there are security personel going through some popular train connections day and night).
Posted: April 25, 2025zürich is pretty safe especially during the day but also at night. in my experienece it’s also safe enough to walk alone outside at night but when i first moved here i wasn’t comfortable doing that. the only place where i make sure to be more aware of my sourroundings is when i am walking in the area of the langstrasse.
Posted: April 23, 2025As a woman I would feel safe (almost very safe) to walk around almost every place in Zürich, even at night. The places I can tjink of tjat don't feel safe are: HB, Stafelhofen trainsation, Langstrasse and Platzspitz.

I think switzerland is generelly a very safe country. But even here sometimes things happens but most of them in places like Langstrasse (redlightscene). But now with all the refugees i homestly have to say that I get harassed more often than ever before. Also these dirty looks are getting more. But it‘s not rly more than that till now like they‘re just calling after me or whistle after but it‘s rare, that someone really harasses me. That happens in clubs where young ppl get in. In technoclubs I never experienced harassment so I prefere to go there or to daydances.

I felt safe, but everything was really expensive and quite out of my reach. I liked the city even if it rained a little, and liked the people I met there. The only problem is that there is not much nightlife.
Posted: May 12, 2025Experienced: March, 2021Switzerland may be one of the safest countries I've been to, I think it's very safe for women. Zurich was very nice but I couldn't find much to do in the winter, it's still peaceful and beautiful, ideal for a 2-3 day trip. I don't think they have very good food, food and accommodation are extremely expensive.

Hi everyone! I am Meltem, live in canton zurich but originally i am turkish from Bursa :) I was born in Switzerland and I live and study architecture here, but i regularly visit my hometown aswell. Since my boyfriend is bulgarian, I also go there often and I am currently learning his language. My university organizes a trip every semester so i get to travel at least two times a year! If i could, i would love to see some asian countries.

Hei hei A random introduction I‘m a bit „verträumt“💭 , spontaneous and passionate🔥. I like the outdoors as well as cities. I love learning about different cultures, food, languages✍️. I love plants🪴 and animals🪿. My two moods as an ideal day Outgoing: sun☀️, spring🌱, 20 degrees, playing beachvolley🏐 with friends, going for a quick swim in the cold water🌊 and going out in the evening🥂. Serene: enjoying the warm weather✨, taking a stroll along a river or forest🌳, maybe visiting a nearby cafe on my own or with a close friend☕️. I‘m still unsure about my travel plans this summer but maybe I can help you out in Zürich! Hit me up if you have any questions :) ☝️ can’t host unfortunately
