Im a local and I love lucerne. The city is always full of people and at night you feel safe in the heart of the city. I walked alone on more than once occasion. Obviously if you see some drunk men you still try to avoid them but tbh no one has ever really sexually harrassed me or my friends. Try to avoid lonely underground passages AT NIGHT tho. A few men from different cultural backgrounds lurke there and even tho it didnt happen to me, my best friend once got followed for a while until the police intervened (someone saw it and called the police). Tho it is very very very rare. You should always use your instict and gut feeling, like usually when we avoid "sketchy" underground areas :)
Posted: August 17, 2025Lucerne is a super safe city - it actually feels more like a big town. Walking home at night, especially within the city centre, shouldn't be an issue, but as always, be aware of your surroundings. If you're staying in the suburbs, walking with someone, taking public transport or a taxi home at night might be a good idea.
Posted: June 20, 2025Very safe, no troubled at all. There are certain areas like Baslerstrasse ya should avoid but apart from that, there‘s no problem. The main train station can get a but sketchy and night, but that‘s like everywhere

Lucerne is pretty much the safest place I've ever been to. I've lived here all my life and I don't live in the city center so I have to use public transportation very often to get home when it's already dark and I've never had a bad experience. You should still always be cautious about your surroundings when you're alone but Lucerne isn't dangerous at all. There's one street that you should avoid at night if you're travelling alone. It's called "Baselstrasse" and goes up to "Bernstrasse". It's almost the only area in Lucerne that is considered sketchy by the locals.
Posted: June 10, 2025I feel completely safe here, I think Switzerland is a super nice place to live as a women. Also, this city is quite small and the people are normally open and friendly. I almost never experienced nothing worrying

I had a brief but memorable stop in Lucerne for about 3-4 hours during my trip. I spent most of the time walking around the city, enjoying the beautiful scenery. We had a snack by the river (highly recommend it, though it’s a bit pricey—well, that’s Switzerland for you). I also tried some ice cream, and I still remember how one scoop cost 4 euros! For me, that’s a huge difference, since in Ukraine, 4 euros could buy you 4-6 scoops. However, the scoop was as big as my fist, and it was delicious! We also took a stroll to the famous flower-covered bridge, listened to some musicians, and then headed to another city. Lucerne left a stronger impression on me than Zurich. The people were friendly, even the tourists (unlike in Zurich, where I didn’t feel as comfortable with the younger crowd).
