Generally it’s a safe city. But at nights it’s a lot quieter ( lots of lightning around). I don’t have any negative experiences. But it’s always a possibility to experience something negative. I am happy about living here.

The Hague is an overall safe city, rated as one of the safest cities in Europe, but cat calling is very common. There is also lots of pick pocketing, especially on public transport. I have recently gotten my phone stolen on the train, but there are many many cases

Reminder that I am a 177cm white woman, which fits into the local population demographic, and so I cannot speak to other experiences however I feel safe and walk home from bars or clubs at 2-4am with no issue. I think even just speaking on the phone helps if you’re ever worried, and police are often around in nighttime places.

During the daytime I never have the feeling I’m unsafe, people are very nice and loving. In the evening I also don’t feel unsafe, but there is a change in what kind of people go outside. But I never experienced something bad.
Posted: January 12, 2025The most dangerous and sketchy areas are around HS station, red light district. The centre region is quite public and unsafe only in like smaller streets. To the sea side is more rich people area so I would say that there it’s quite but you can never know

The Hague is an overall safe city with a high number of internationals. As a woman it is totally fine to go out by yourself and cycle home or take public transport after a night out. There are always safer and less safe neighborhoods, but in general there's nothing to worry about.
Posted: January 2, 2025Very decent city, of course as in any town some neighbourhoods require more awareness, but city centre is overall safe. I go out very often on my own to bars, a few like Huppelthepub and Café De Oude Mol got great staff who keep an eye out too, although their bars are not kinda places for unwanted attention because they keep an eye out ;) Jazzcafe Le Duc is great for live music on each day of the week, and got good staff too. Very international environment due to the jazz students from the conservatory who go there!
Posted: December 26, 2024I have always felt very safe here!! I bike alone at night, feel comfortable using public transport and the people are very nice here. Also a city that’s very open to internationals, you’ll get by speaking English.
Posted: August 23, 2024I've never had to worry for my safety when in The Hague. Public transport is abundant, safe and easy, nobody will bother you when you're walking alone. Even when it's dark the popular areas are still safe.
Posted: July 31, 2024The Hague is a very safe city overall. The northwest part of the city is mostly affluent and extremely safe. Some of the less affluent areas are more mixed, which doesn’t necessarily impact safety, especially during the day. I would say the areas I’d prefer not to live in are Laakkwartier and the Schilderswijk. These places are not unsafe but they’re less safe and comfortable than, for example, Regentessekwartier or Zeeheldenbuurt.

Very safe and lovely people! Very beautiful multinational community of students. Typically not many things to do past 5 pm but art museums were lovely and overall the city was gorgeous! I highly recommend an Amsterdam- The Hague trip
Posted: March 30, 2025We stayed in a bed and breakfast the food in the b&b wasn't That Good. For dinner we went to two different Italian restaurants and they were amazing. If you are planning to go to den Haag by car, don't! Its very expensive to park there. You can go to the beatch and go swimming. There are a few Museum witch are worth a visit (Museum Voorlinden). Or you can go to Duinrell.

Hi! My name is Djonie, i'm from the Netherlands. I'm following a food related study right now, hopefully i'll graduate this summer! I love the Netherlands, but i want to do things, experience life and explore other countries and cultures! I'm pretty calm and coolheaded but i want to get out of my habit of staying home and not going anywhere. I'm planning to to volunteer work after my graduation, thinking of somewhere in Asia 🗺️ I'd love to go back packing too but i need to start somewhere, right?
Ylvali
Hi everyone!! I am currently interrailing with my girlfriend around Italy Austria and Switzerland! We had a lot of last minute changed in our plans and are mostly now looking for last minute couches and meet ups. Together we just did a summer school in Athens where we shot a documentary about community organised cultural spaces in Athens and since then we have been on the road for over a month to celebrate my girlfriend’s graduation! Hit us up!! A little about me then: I am Ylvali, a 22 year old from Sweden currently studying in The Hague. I love to meet new people and to be surrounded by light hearted and curious people, especially other women! I travel to learn about the different ways life can be experienced and this is what I seek here as well. I find travelling infinitely more interesting when you have locals around to peak into what they like and hate in a city, how they socialize and meet their friends, what their favourite spots to eat are, and everything in between. As I’d like to think that liking to travel is not a personality trait, my other hobbies consist of all things creative- I paint, draw, make jewellery, do graphics and more. And also designing and occasionally giving out tattoos to friends but that’s a story for another day. I also love reading and writing and going to the cinemas, especially smaller independent cinemas! If you’re open to going on long walks that will take double the estimated time because we can’t stop talking and laughing, swimming in lakes and waterfalls, chasing sunsets, we will probably get along well!!! I would love to connect and visit or host you:)
