I was in Rotterdam in the Sommer and I felt really safe. City is really nice, but you can see most of it in one day. I went to the two hours cruse with boat , and I was disappointed. They show you just the Industry side of the city.

Unic experience, it’s really safe city. I traveled solo and the people are friendly.Rotterdam offers a surprising mix of historic charm and modern style. Explore iconic places like the houses of Kubus, Markthal and Erasmusbrug, immerse yourself in maritime history in the Maritime Museum, sway through trendy neighborhoods like Witte de With and enjoy the lively atmosphere of paradise. You'll find world-class art galleries, delicious dishes and a lively nightlife, which makes Rotterdam a truly charming destination.

I really fell in love with Rotterdam. It is safe to visit at night and each building is an architectural marvel. It's a bit expensive city, but it's an enjoyable place.People are kind and most people speak English.

Rotterdam is a wonderful city to visit. Due to the fact the city was almost flattened during the WW2, the city is modern and well laid out with many attractions within walking distance. The Museums are beautiful, well worth spending the time to visit, the shopping in the city is AMAZING, the harbours are lovely and there are many fantastic restaurants as well. Tip, go to the tourist info centre and grab a walking tour map, but also buy a proper map of Rotterdam so you can get your bearings. Do a bit of research so you can use the Metro transport system, it is easy once you get your head around it, and the trams in the city are a great way to get around all of the sights if you don't want to walk. Make sure you go to the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, it is in my opinion superior to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and a whole lot less crowded, they have a brilliant and eclectic collection. If you want to duck into Amsterdam, go by the fast FYRA train, it will get you there in around 45 minutes and leaves every 30 minutes.
Posted: August 21, 2023I went to Rotterdam for a one-day trip and I was very pleased with that. However, one day is definitely enough time to see everything. They have cool bridges to explore, along with the observation tower (Euromast), and the cubic houses were interesting. Excellent food and great people.

I have experienced Rotterdam being a quite safe city to live in. There are some parts, like close to the train station and different neighbourhoods in the south of Rotterdam, that are a bit less safe at night. If you do have to go there, just use a bike instead of walking, and I think it’s okay:)
Posted: December 27, 2025There is quite some crime, but almost never does it have to anything to do with the regular citizens, as it’s mostly within crime circles. I feel very safe in the city, even in the more poor regions.

Has its unsafe-er areas like any city, but generally I would live in every neighbourhood. None of them are that bad you can't go, just means some weird people will catcall you. Generally very safe, would def r commend for solo female travellers.
Posted: November 9, 2025I lived in Rotterdam for a year and a half and never felt particularly unsafe, moving around on bike also helps with this as you’re never stuck anywhere. But even walking I’ve never had a problem though I mostly stayed in residential and central areas
Posted: August 26, 2025It really depends on which are you are staying at. Usually the south side of the city (divided by the Erasmus bridge) is more dangerous and there are more crime. I rarely experience racism or sexual harassment but it does happen sometimes. I walk home at night often but I always feel safe

I am 18 years old and I’m in my gap year, I’m working to save up to travel. In November I was in South-Africa with the organisation Surfpop, we volunteered by helping children from townships with surfing and homework. We also got surf lessons and did amazing activities. Next year, from the end of February till the end of April, I am going interrailling through Europe and I would love to meet new people!! It would be nice if someone would want to host me 🥰

My name is Manon (35) from Rotterdam. I've been hosting and meeting up with people trough couchsurfing for years. But this weekend a female traveler that I hosted recommended this app to me and I must say I love the Vibes ♥️ I love to solo travel and will mostly be on a roadtrip around Europe when on vacation. When im home I host travelers on couchsurfing and hopefully soon here. About me, I love seeing bands live our going to a festival and am a major foodie. Recommendations for restaurants our local bands are verry appreciated. I love to meetup with people on my solo trips to get to know the country and the culture more. For me that could be something simple as just meeting up for coffee and a chat, our joining me for on the roadtrip to go an adventure 🌳🌊🍸🏖️🚙
