The city feel pretty safe, there were occasionally some scary cases in the past 2 years I live here but that might be sadly everywhere at this point. Because Leeuwarden is filled with a lot of international students that have each others back, I tent to feel very safe, free and on ease.
Posted: January 18, 2025i find it safe overall. Although sometimes, there are crimes such as store robbery. The nearest assault on girls were in October. If you walk in the central and bright places, it’s totally safe. Some zones have gangs. The people here are friendly though. I rarely see pickpockets as well. Maybe due to the town is small, I pay attention more in crimes. But the crime rate is not high compared to other cities
Posted: January 9, 2025I would say at daytime it's very safe but at nighttime there are a few places where it can be a bit less safe sometimes. But overall I'd say you shouldn't have to worry too much by going here for an holiday
Posted: January 7, 2025Leeuwarden is pretty small for an city, it’s an student city so police is around a lot but the crime rates are pretty low around here it’s an simple city in the north of the Netherlands nothing big but very beautiful
Posted: January 1, 2025It's a nice cosy place most of the streets are really safe and you can walk after dark without feeling any fear, I walked along many times between 12 to 5 and never felt unsafe, although sometimes you see strangers who want to talk but it's really rare

Sometimes bad things do happen. And it depends which area you live in. In case of someone breaking in I think it's pretty common like the rest of other countries. Bikes do get stolen a lot but I do feel safe in this city.
Posted: June 1, 2024Very friendly and cozy town with more bad apples than expected A lot of gunshots and explosive sounds around town but never heard of someone getting hurt. I've never been in a negative situation there personally
