It's fairly safe, but like every other country there are bad people luring at night so be aware. But I personally never had such experience where I felt fear moving around my city. Dutch people are nice most if the time and can speak good English, so as a foreigner it won't be hard to travel around in the Netherlands.

It is a really safe city for solo women, be careful your bike might get stolen :) besides that, avoid Kruistraat during evenings. The city is full of engineers, so it is really predictable and can be boring at times.

I've lived in Utrecht for many years. Generally speaking I've felt safe there. Public transport very late at night attracts people who are heavily under the influence, so make sure you sit around other people with good vibes. The level of sexual harassment is similar to other big cities. Nothing crazy or something to particularly afraid of, but it does exist.
Posted: June 4, 2025It is a small city near the coast, with a very friendly atmosphere. An university city, so many students around. Lively centre with canals, outside cafes, markets on Wednesday and Saturday, many museums, and a castle on a hill.

I mostly walk everywhere, also in the middle of the night. It is a very pleasant city. There are some homeless people, as in most big cities, but besides daling for money they leave you alone. I would recommend visiting Utrecht as a solo female traveler

As Terneuzen is a small town, there isn't much going on, so I can walk to the gym late at night without worries. Public transport isn't that big as the bus goes every 30 minutes, but if you have a car you can go to quite a few bigger cities like Roosendaal, Ghent and Antwerp within an hour driving.

I felt safe during the day but after it got dark it was a bit tricky since it's a really popular city among tourists. I definitely would recommend trying traditional surinamese restaurant Warung Spang Makandra.

I lived in Amsterdam for 9 month, near the centraal station (10min walk) as I was an au pair, and I had the best time of my life. Amsterdam was such a great city and even the Netherlands as the whole country are amazing. I felt mostly safe even at night, if I felt uneasy sometimes, it was bc of tourists rather than locals. Dutch may seem distant and even rude, but they are actually kindhearted. I got to visit almost all of the city, and I hadn't been disappointed at all!! Still come there about every three months bc i miss the place too much. Great experience overall!
