I experience it as safe, though I do not live really in Utrecht but a bit outside, but friends of mine who live or have lived there do also experience it as safe. I have worked in the city center and felt good. Though it still is a big city so it does not feel as safe as my home town.

I moved to Leiden months ago and from my Latin American point of view this is paradise. It's not a big nor a small city, but if feels like both, there's nice places to see, nice things to do, everything is nearby and it's very very safe. I only feel insecure after dark because I'm still a woman, but I went home by bicycle after midnight a couple of times and it was absolutely fine. I heard rumors that sometimes people break into houses here but it's not common, so just keep doors and windows locked to make sure.

Wassenaar is a simple small town near the beach here in south Holland. A quiet place that is home of the not so quiet ‘duinrell attraction park’ where you can go if you feel like a rollercoaster ride. Since we are close to the Netherlands’ political heart in The Hague, police patrols are regular and frequent.

Eindhoven is very safe for solo travel/ for women. I have never experienced anything bad at night when bike through the city by myself. I think it is similar to other cities in the Netherlands. The public transport is safe and many things are easy to reach by bike and by foot. But always stay street smart and if you feel unsafe or do not have a good feeling at a certain area, take care of yourself or ask for help.

It's fairly safe, but like every other country there are bad people luring at night so be aware. But I personally never had such experience where I felt fear moving around my city. Dutch people are nice most if the time and can speak good English, so as a foreigner it won't be hard to travel around in the Netherlands.

It is a really safe city for solo women, be careful your bike might get stolen :) besides that, avoid Kruistraat during evenings. The city is full of engineers, so it is really predictable and can be boring at times.

Safety depends on the neighborhood. I loved food courts, especially the one near De Pier where you can enjoy panoramic views. I recommend visiting Scheveningen area and Peace Palace in the city center. I loved drinking coffee near the canals and in the Koekamp park where you can find animals like deers and squirrels.
Posted: June 13, 2025Experienced: June, 2023I felt safe during the day but after it got dark it was a bit tricky since it's a really popular city among tourists. I definitely would recommend trying traditional surinamese restaurant Warung Spang Makandra.
