It feels like a small village with lots of space, beach and nature just around the corner. I walk and ride my bike at night without ever experiencing anything but being alone and able to enjoy going home. I even ride my bike from the beach after dark and that is like a 40minutes bike ride. Also you can wear whatever you want and feel save.
Posted: August 31, 2025Seems fine during daylight but can be sketchy when you leave the centre; main problem is drunk homeless or drunk students who are disrespectful- you’ll find them in the centre as well but I don’t walk alone at night outside the main streets because of too many experiences of harassment
Posted: August 29, 2025I lived in Rotterdam for a year and a half and never felt particularly unsafe, moving around on bike also helps with this as you’re never stuck anywhere. But even walking I’ve never had a problem though I mostly stayed in residential and central areas
Posted: August 26, 2025Utrecht sometimes feels quite unsafe to me. Especially in the evenings, I notice a lot of crowds, groups of young people, and bikes being stolen. In some neighborhoods, I prefer to avoid walking alone on the street. There are a lot of police and enforcement officers patrolling the area for checks, which still brings a certain sense of safety.
Posted: August 25, 2025It really depends on which are you are staying at. Usually the south side of the city (divided by the Erasmus bridge) is more dangerous and there are more crime. I rarely experience racism or sexual harassment but it does happen sometimes. I walk home at night often but I always feel safe
