Beautiful trip! I spent most of my time in Colorado Springs where I stayed at a hostel with 5 others from around the country. Colorado Springs was full of peaceful nature vibes, challenging hikes & climbs, and unique boutique shops. I loved it there!
Posted: December 25, 2025Gorgeous, large city with amazing food and cultures. I have been to Chicago twice - once during the winter (absolutely gorgeous white Christmas experience) and the other time during the summer (beautiful weather and atmosphere).

I stayed downtown and stuck to public transportation, which always felt very safe. I know there's a stereotype that people in Seattle aren't super friendly, but the overall vibe was on par with what I've experienced in other big US cities.

I had a great time in La, i love the variety and atmosphere! Got to be safe and careful as women tho. If you find your people (and there is a group for everyone) I assure you will have an amazing time!

I went to Raleigh last year with my partner. It was super fun! Some of the attractions in NC are very fun. I enjoyed being there. I felt safe for the most part but after dark it was a little sketchy.

Stamford is safe as long as you don’t try and get into shady activities yourself. Cops are around but don’t care as much as NY cops when it comes to unsafe driving or illegal substances. Not everyone is welcome but the most that usually occurs are nasty stares and rude words.
Posted: January 4, 2026I’ve only been in San Diego for about three years for school, so I don’t know much about the safety. I would just say avoid sketchy-looking areas that don’t have emergency personnel nearby, especially at night. Be safe and be smart.
Posted: January 2, 2026Columbia currently has a lot of issues with local government and their relations with university officials, who have expressed a deep concern for safety of the highly concentrated young adults and students in the area. There have been a few gun violence incidents specifically close to campuses, though the majority of violent activity tends to occur on the other wire of the interstate from the college campuses.
Posted: January 1, 2026Very very small town, nothing happens here haha. There are plenty of natural sites that you may encounter wildlife on (bears, coyotes, foxes), but the chances of human vs. human crime are quite low. That said, nearby cities (Winston-Salem, Greensboro) may pose a bit more concern.

Overall very safe. I've lived here 14 years and never had a problem. Rhere are some homeless at night that can get violent if they feel threatened but beyond that its a great community. Hemet is the only place id recommend avoiding at all costs. Not very safe, and nothing worth the risk.

Durham

I love my city! I have been to over 29 different countries so I am well traveled. Durham is great because it blends intellect, creativity, and authenticity in a way few mid-sized cities manage. Anchored by Duke University and the Research Triangle, it attracts smart, curious people without feeling elitist. The food scene is nationally recognized yet still approachable, driven by chefs who experiment and stay rooted in the community. Durham’s arts and music culture feels lived-in, not performative, with murals, festivals, and local venues shaping daily life. Its Black history and civil rights legacy are visible and honored, giving the city depth and perspective. Nature is never far away, with trails, rivers, and forests minutes from downtown. The city is social and fun without being overwhelming, from Bulls games to DPAC shows to neighborhood farmers markets. Durham values individuality and weirdness, which fuels its reputation as “Little Portland” without copying anyone else. It’s a place where startups, nonprofits, artists, and families genuinely coexist. Most of all, Durham feels real—welcoming, evolving, and confident in exactly what it is.
