You have to be careful what neighborhoods in Queens you go to. The closer you are to Long Island, the safer it is. Northeast Queens is the safest. Overall, it is one of the safest boroughs. Be vigilant and walk in well-lit areas.

Queens, NY is overall pretty residential and relatively quiet. While it's not immune to crime since it's a part of a major city, overall I feel safe here and at times I walk home from the subway (a 10-min walk) late at night (after 10pm) with minimal concerns.
