Safety at night:Safe

Oahu, especially in tourist-friendly areas like Honolulu and Waikiki, is relatively safe even at night. Most places are well-lit, busy, and have a visible police presence. However, like any city, it's always advisable to take standard safety precautions, such as staying in well-populated areas, being aware of your surroundings, and refrain from walking alone in unfamiliar areas, particularly late at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Oahu is commonly regarded as safe and reliable. It is frequently used by both locals and tourists alike. The bus system, known as 'TheBus', is comprehensive and easily navigable. Services such as Uber and Lyft are also prevalent on the island. However, usual safety precautions are still recommended such as travelling during daylight, keeping an eye on your belongings and avoiding isolated bus stops or stations during off-peak hours.
Street harassment:

Oahu, as part of the Hawaiian Islands, generally exhibits the friendly 'Aloha spirit' that's characteristic of the region. While it's always crucial to remain vigilant and aware of one's surroundings, instances of street harassment are relatively lower compared to many other tourist destinations. It is advised to dress in a culturally respectful manner and exhibit general precautions, especially during the night, to minimize any potential discomfort.
Petty crimes:

Oahu is a relatively safe destination for solo female travelers. Petty crimes, such as pickpocketing and bag snatching are not very common but can occur, especially in crowded tourist spots and busy streets. Always be sure to keep your belongings secure and be cautious of your surroundings in order not to fall victim to such crimes. Despite the low incidence, it is always important to ensure personal safety and take precautions where necessary.

Is Oahu worth visiting?

Solo travel

Oahu is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Highly recommend Turtle Bay Resort. I felt very safe at all times and there is plenty to do. Paia Fish Market is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to

Solo travel

Oahu was my first solo trip. There was no place where I felt unsafe. Even when returning to my hostel after the bar closed, I got lost for two hours. Yet, no one bothered me. I recommend visiting the karaoke bar Wang Chung's. It's this strange hotel bar that surprisingly is filled with local residents and has a Kill Bill movie theme, owned by a Japanese businessman. It was one of the highlights of my trip.
