The most magical trip I have ever taken in my life with very best friend and my parents!🐢The water was breathtaking and the views were like something straight out of a movie. I only had three days there but it was so amazing I would love to go back and stay for several weeks.

4 day trip to Hawaii, wasn’t a planned destination for me, but I decided to stop here on my way home from Japan. If you’re comfortable with hostels, I’d recommend Polynesian Hostel Beach Club (clean, staff were really welcoming, movie nights, first come first serve beach chairs & umbrellas, and affordable surfboard rentals, & few minutes walk to the beach and nice strip of shop’s & restaurants) otherwise hotels are definitely pricey. You can get day bus pass for $10 or week bus pass for $40,...

I stayed in downtown Honolulu and got a rental car. The Airbnb was in a hotel and the hotel staff suggested I park my car there for $50 a day because it wasn’t safe on the street. I did it the first day then after that I felt completely safe parking it on the street. Especially from my hotel. I can definitely see where my car was the whole time and it was never messed with. The people were a little bit of mixed with hospitality I had some rude people that can spot the tourist but there were...

Honestly I really liked it but I felt a little bit unsafe after dark and not being in a touristy places. I was traveling g on a budget and I think I paid like $200 for 4 days there (not including flights and a place to sleep). I was using public transportation all of the time.

Solo travel

Honolulu was a really busy place, it as pretty expensive and a bit lonely for a solo trip. I think being on my own wasn’t maybe the best as a lot of men would come up to me on the street and ask me out. At first it seemed ok but it really wasn’t and I realised that the American culture is kinda superficial so everyone seems really nice at first but it was not very safe. During the day it felt very safe but at night it was not great walking alone, I found it hard to make friends with other...

Couple travel

I felt very safe in Honolulu! I was with my partner but either way I would feel completely safe solo travelling. We walked around early in the morning and late at night, and stayed slightly off the beaten path. A fair amount of homeless people in some spots, but they did not approach me. We took a bus to diamond head and it was completely reliable and safe.

Honolulu is amazing. I traveled there by myself, rented a car for a few days, drove around the island, climbed Diamond Head, participated in a Luau, went to Hanauma Bay, swam with sharks on the North Shore, visited Waimea Valley, went to a coffee and macadamia nut plantation, swam in the ocean, saw sea turtles. It all felt like paradise.

Absolutely loved my time here the people were so welcoming and friendly. I worked at a bar / club for a few weeks as they have a high turnover rate bc of the travelers that frequent Hawaii. It’s got tons of delicious food and beautiful beaches, amazing hikes and the weather was perfect.

Climbing Diamond Head is one of my must-do items when I'm in Oahu. Visiting Pearl Harbor and the Iolani Palace is worthwhile due to their historical significance (they can be quite emotional experiences). The Foster Botanical Garden is beautiful, and I highly recommend the Bishop Museum. Waikiki Beach is cool to visit, but Lanikai Beach is prettier. A few notes: - All the beaches I visited have public restrooms, but none of them had soap any time I was there, so if you're going, bring your own...

My recommendations: Lanikai and Kailua beaches are beautiful, while Polo Beach is a nudist beach. For free snorkeling, check out Electric Beach and Shark's Cove. Go hiking on Koko Head, preferably in the morning, as it gets hot in the afternoon and there is no shade on the trail. If you're an adrenaline junkie, you may want to try the three peaks, but beware - the third peak is the most dangerous and tragedies have occurred there, so I do not recommend this route. Take surfing lessons! Free...

Is Honolulu safe for women?

O'ahu is generally a safe place. I feel very safe taking public transportation and mostly safe going hiking alone or to secluded beaches. I'm careful about not leaving valuables in my car or unattended at a beach. People are usually really friendly and will definitely help in an emergency.

Waikiki during the day and night (before 11pm) are usually safe. Shops close around 10/11pm and the traffic declines. Stay clear of alleyways during the night. Kalakaua Ave is usually more lit up than Kuhio Ave, so I’d rather walk there.

It’s a very small town on a very small island. There are parts that have more “crime” than others, but it’s mostly petty crimes and theft because of the extreme poverty. Hawaii is a very expensive place to live and the wages here are not equal to the cost of living. That is the only reason I stay alert, as women always should, but I walk around alone and travel alone and this is by far one of the safest cities in the USA.

Very safe area, especially where tourists stay. There are always police around to ensure safety. Homeless people aren’t very aggressive, so they just exist and sleep on sidewalks. They are grateful for any food you could provide.

It depends on the area that you are in, but overall it’s a pretty safe place to be. Of course, be mindful of your surroundings and don’t leave any valuables any out in the open (e.g.: on the seat of your car, on top of all of your stuff at the beach).

About me

Hi, my name is joella, I'm a single gal living in the city of Honolulu, HI. I made it a goal to be off the island as much as possible this year. I am not tied down too much here, so I'm really hoping to open my eyes to other parts of the world and find more passions.
