Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Trieste generally has a low crime rate and is considered safe even during the night. Of course, it's always important to keep in mind basic safety precautions, particularly if you're walking alone. Stay in well-lit areas, avoid isolated spots, and keep your belongings close to you. Overall, Trieste is a beautiful city that's largely safe to explore even after dark.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Trieste is generally safe for solo female travelers. The buses and trams are reliable and well-maintained. Though pickpocketing incidents can occur, they are relatively rare. Late-night transportation might be less secure, so it is advisable to be more vigilant during those hours. Overall, as long as you maintain normal precautions, public transportation in Trieste is a good option for solo travel.

Street harassment:Low

Trieste is generally safe and the locals are cordial. It's quite rare to face overt street harassment. However, remember to stay vigilant as there can still be odd incidents, just like anywhere in the world. Therefore, even at night, the streets are often bustling with locals providing a relatively secure environment. But always remember, caution is never misplaced, always be aware of your surroundings.

Petty crimes:Low

Trieste is traditionally safe with a low level of petty crimes. As a solo female traveler, you may encounter minor issues such as petty theft, pickpocketing, or bag snatching in crowded places like public transportation or tourist hotpots. However, these instances are infrequent with the majority of visits incident-free. It's still advisable to remain vigilant and cautious with your personal belongings, especially in public places, to further reduce your risk.

Tap water:Very safe

In Trieste, like in all parts of Italy, tap water is safe to drink. Local government tests the water frequently to ensure safety and cleanliness. It is not only considered safe, but also environmentally friendly compared to purchasing bottled water.

In my opinion Trieste is a very safe city, it’s mostly populated by older people or uni student; of course some aerea for example near the train station are not the best areas at night but still not dangerous.
