Is Verona Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Verona generally has a safe environment for solo female travelers. The city has low crime rates and locals are usually helpful and friendly. Just like anywhere else, it's advised to take the usual precautions like avoiding secluded areas at night and being aware of your surroundings. Street crimes such as pickpocketing can occur in crowded tourist areas, so personal belongings should be kept secure.

Safety index

Safety at night:Safe

Verona is generally a safe city to walk around at night. Like any city, there are areas you'll need to be cautious of, but the city center and main tourist areas are often well lit and busy into the evening. However, always be aware of your surroundings and avoid taking shortcuts through unlit areas or side streets. It's best to stick to main roads and populated places.

Public transportation:Safe

Verona's public transportation, mainly comprising of buses, is generally safe and efficient. As a solo female traveler, you should feel comfortable navigating the city this way. During regular hours, the buses can be crowded which makes you less vulnerable. However, as with all public transportation, be mindful of pickpockets, especially during peak tourist season. I would advise not keeping valuables in easily accessible pockets. Night services are less frequent but equally safe.

Street harassment:Low

Verona, like many European cities, is generally safe for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not a common issue here, but it's always advisable to take usual precautions to ensure personal safety. As always, if in unfamiliar areas, especially at night, be cautious.

Petty crimes:Low

Petty crimes like pickpocketing, purse snatching, or theft from cars occur in Verona, but they are relatively infrequent compared to larger cities. Be particularly cautious in crowded places such as markets and public transport. However, the reported incidents in Verona are lower; it's generally a safe city for solo female travelers. As always, it's crucial to stay vigilant and alert to your surroundings.

Tap water:Very safe

In Verona, tap water is of a high standard and perfectly safe to drink. The local government ensures that the water quality is checked regularly and maintains it according to the standards of World Health Organization. The taste of tap water in Verona, bottled water, and that served in restaurants is fairly similar due to the process of softening and filtering it at source.

Solo travel experience

I had a really good time in Verona last year. The city is beautiful and there is a lot to see. I stayed for 3 days and simply wandered around the streets of the city center to see where it would lead me. I recommend taking advantage of the Verona card, it costs 26 euros and gives you access to all tourist attractions, allows you to skip lines, and you can also use it on city buses for two days. If you get away from the main squares, food and drinks become cheaper. I was there in September last year and I felt very safe.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone to Verona and chose a one-day trip to Lake Garda. I really enjoyed it and felt completely safe. Verona is a beautiful city. I stayed right in the center and didn't venture too far from my accommodation at night. I used trains from Verona to Lake Garda and had no problems buying tickets online. I don't speak Italian, but I didn't encounter any problems.

Group travel experience

Beautiful city to travel with a group. We had a lovely time as part of our student exchange, the people were welcoming and food was great. There are threats of pickpocketing at a few spots so do your research and keep your bags safe.

Is Verona safe for women?

Verona city center is safe as are the surroundings, I would say you have to be safe around the area of Verona Porta Nuova train station and Porta Vescovo area but overall it is quite a safe city for travellers, even solo female travellers

I went to Verona to visit a friend and while he was working I got to run around the city centre and some of the surrounding areas. I was hot, and when I say hot I mean hot hot! Personally I'm a person how gets sunburnt so fast so I really had to be careful but I was definitely worth a visit so many different people and just listening to the passionate Italian on the streets made me happy! LOVED IT 💗

Verona is a beautiful city and with great history. There is a free tour anyone can take part and I would recommend u to do it you will see Verona with different eyes. In the Teatro Romano there is every night during summer an opera. I would come again here but not in summer where there are too many tourists and the weather is too hot.
