How safe is Turin?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Turin is generally safe to wander at night. It's a city that holds a friendly atmosphere, thanks to its low crime rate. It's recommended to keep vigilant in crowded areas, as pickpocket incidents have been reported. But, typically, streets are well-lit and there's usually a good police presence in more populated spots. While those areas are quite safe, it's best to avoid any secluded or poorly-lit areas at night as a solo traveler. Always remember to trust your intuition and stay within public areas while exploring the beauty of Turin.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Turin is generally safe for solo female travelers. Being a major city, Turin has a well-established and efficient system of buses, trams, and a metro line. It is regularly used by locals as well as tourists, and day times are especially secure with heavy footfall. Night times are slightly less crowded and may warrant some caution, mostly because of occasional instances of petty theft. However, violent crimes are rare. Always remain alert and mindful of your belongings.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Turin exhibits a generally safe and respectful environment. Street harassment does occur, but it is relatively infrequent. Women can typically journey through the city, enjoying its incredible art, culture, and cuisine without experiencing unwelcome attention or disrespectful behavior. However, it is always essential to remain vigilant, aware of one’s surroundings, and adopt safety precautions – key for travel anywhere.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Turin is generally a very safe city to visit, even for women traveling alone. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag-snatching do occur, especially in crowded areas or on public transportation, but they are not very common. Many locals and visitors alike feel very safe walking around both day and night. However, like any big city, being aware of your surroundings and keeping your belongings close to you can help prevent becoming a victim of such crimes.
Tap water:

Tap water:Safe

Tap water in Turin is generally safe to drink. The country has strict water regulations in place, ensuring the water is treated and purified. However, the taste can vary, sometimes leaving a slight chlorine taste due to the treatment process. If that bothers you, consider using a filter or purchasing bottled water instead. It is also common in many cafes for the tap water to be served for free.

Turin is a big city and there are neighbourhoods where I don’t feel safe walking alone in the night. However, I think that, despite the perception of unsafety, the actual risk of being physically in danger is quite low.

Safeness of Turin, as well as every other city, depends on the area. I would describe it at pretty safe, but there are for sure some phenomena creating some areas more vulnerable than others. I have never been either assaulted nor robbed, and since I live here I did not come to hear something happening to the people close to me.

Turin has been welcoming me and my dog Almond with warmth hugs! Greeted by the sunset on our arrival day and meeting lovely new friends/sisters in the city. The city is definitely beyooond dog friendly and its coming from us who lives in Berlin that is also considered dog friendly city! Food has been amazing and people has been really kind and heart-warming.

Turin is awesome! One of the more affordable cities to visit, with a super creative vibe. There’s tons of live music, jazz, and open mic nights! Also the food is great. Typical for the area, bagna cauda is a must try!!

About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Violetta, I’m 32 and I live in Italy, in a lovely city called Turin. I’m a travel enthusiast and I try to travel as much as I can as soon as I have some days off. I find solo travels very enriching and I discovered this way of traveling a few years ago, when I struggled to plan holidays with my friends and my boyfriend, having different days off and different priorities, so I told myself: why should I wait for someone to come with me if I can simply go and enjoy my trip (that time it was to Stockholm) ☺️ And I haven’t stopped since! Besides travelling, I’m a passionate linguist and I work as a translation project manager. I’m also a bookworm and I do my best to read at least a couple of books set in the country I’m going to visit, which is great way to discover new authors and stories. I’m eager to meet new people and enjoy a (craft) beer while having an interesting chat together!
