Messina is a very large city, there is not much crime and you can walk around safely, although I advise you to always keep your eyes open. It is a quite peaceful place and I recommend visiting it.

Messina is quite a peaceful, managable and not pricey in Sicily. I can see that people in here are so friendly, joyful and very supportive. I have been here for 2 years but all of my experiences are all good!
