I felt safe in the city, we did rent a car for most of the trip and roadtriped through the mountains and slept in the car We rented the sleeping bag from decathlon and were zero cold despite being december. I really loved the winter markets we went but they were small compared to others in europe :)
Posted: July 17, 2025Beautiful city! Probably one of my favorite towns in Italy. I felt it was mostly safe during the day (I would say at night near the station and in some alleys it’s kind of the same everywhere in Italy, I would avoid them), especially during christmas time the atmosphere was so cozy and peaceful. The little Christmas markets were perfect, not overfilled like the ones in big cities, and the local food was amazing! I had polenta with some other dishes, and seriously I can’t get enough of Veneto cuisines😭🤍 Would definitely recommend! During the wintertime espwcial Christmas if you’re looking for a not too overcrowded, overpriced place with very comforting atmosphere and sweet people.
Posted: April 17, 2025I went there in fall on a group trip and we went to bergamo Alta I think it is called, but I was the most beautiful place I have ever been 🩷 the locals are very sweet and the food is absolutely amazing 🤩
Posted: January 20, 2025As someone with an American accent, I was not very well liked here, as to be expected in small town Italy. My partner and I got an excessive amount of stares and comments everywhere we went, mostly for the way we dressed or our body hair, etc. It is more of a place for an Italian tourist, not really an American or non-Italian for that matter.

During the day, Bergamo is safe, but at night it’s less so. The province of Bergamo is quite safe in areas like Torre Boldone, Ranica, Alzano, and Nembro. The city center, however, isn’t particularly safe in the evening or at night: men risk fights, thefts, or stabbings, while women may face harassment or assault. This mainly happens in the areas near the train station and along the provincial roads. I’d recommend staying in one of the towns I mentioned (it takes about 15 minutes to reach the city center by public transport, although unfortunately there are often no buses after 7:30–8:00 p.m.), or in the “Città Alta” area, also known as the Old City, or around “Via XX Settembre” and “Piazza Pontida,” which is also the main nightlife area with bars and young people. The area between Via XX Settembre and Città Alta is the wealthiest and should be safe. Avoid taking trains at night, especially those heading to/from Milan. Milan and the trains going there at night are not safe.

Bergamo is overall a safe and turistic city ! I'm originally from Milan and it's more dangerous and unsafe than Bergamo ! I reccomand to stay in the center and avoid the train / bus station in the darkest hours (Late evening and all the night )! Bergamo Alta ( historic city on a hill ) is the safest. Also my house is located in a strategic area : 10 minutes by walk from the bus/train station and 15 minutes by walk from Bergamo Alta . I live beside the Police Station and we have a lot of bus stops around our area !
Posted: August 20, 2025Actually Bergamo is a really safe place because they are government rules are so strict and if you know you know the new rule is that if if someone is a woman murderer it means that he’s going to get jail for life so the rules are so attracted and as a woman with this new rule, I feel safe than before
Posted: August 12, 2025I think Bergamo is quite safe, crime rates are low. Of course you should avoid some specific streets where usually there are people who use drugs or are drunk. If you know where to go, you can walk alone without any worries.
Posted: July 28, 2025Bergamo is a safe city especially the “center”. I live in a small town near by but i went to uni in Bergamo and it’s an amazing city. Like everywhere in the world we have to be careful but come to Bergamo, it’s an amazing city! And don’t forget Bergamo Alta
