Avoid suspicious looking people. There are issues with mental health and aggressive encounters do occasionally happen. Various neighborhoods are different. Downtown at night is usually fine (I have been followed though).
Posted: October 22, 2024Montreal is generally a safe city! Platrau, Mile End and most parts of Villeray are easy to travel. Some spota downtown (especially downtown and close to the bus station) can be more stressful at night.

Fairly safe, most people mind their own business, but they mind if you speak French not English, it’s beautiful in the summer not in the winter as much , is a small island so in the summer is best they will be more activities
Posted: September 24, 2024Montreal is generally a very safe city and has one of the lowest crime rates in Canada. I would consider it safe for solo female travellers. The downtown area is a great area to explore during the day and night.
Posted: September 21, 2024I think Montreal is a super safe city. I've lived here for three years and I walk around my area without any problems, even at night. However, the city is huge and I haven't been to many places. I have never witnessed theft, robbery, sexual harassment or acts of violence. There are indeed many homeless people on the streets.
Posted: September 1, 2024After travelling in Europe, South America, Africa and India, I can say that Montreal feels very safe as a woman. Downtown, I have no problem walking at night alone, or taking public transportation. In more remote areas, I would try to stay in zones where there is a bit of life, but I do that everywhere. I’ve very rarely been harassed on the street, and my female friends feel just as safe in the city. There is some crime of course, but it rarely affects the general public.
Posted: August 29, 2024It’s safe depending on the area be careful . Avoid being alone after 2 am. Avoid homeless and people around the injection centres. Transportation is secure and very safe and nice , very 5 min , buses are available

Montréal is a very friendly and safe city. You can walk around with your purse without thinking about pickpockets. Men can catcall women at night but never during the day. Bars and clubs are safe and so are restaurants. Of course you have to stay aware of things around you but I've always felt safe when other people were around me.

Montreal feels absolutely safe and even more so in my neighborhood and around. I live in a very familial area surrounded by cute restaurants, coffeeshops, bakeries etc. It is lively and people are very nice 😊
Posted: August 21, 2024Montreal downtown is safe in day time but at night there’s some homeless walking around the city, but if is during some matches or festivals is safe cause there will be a lot cops. The north over metro station De Castelnau, and the east over Pie-IX is a little dangerous at night cause of the gangsters.

I’m currently travelling in Montreal, I’m here for a month. I’m having a lot of fun here, it’s really nice and safe place, as a woman I feel very good with the city and walking by myself. The only bad point would be the prices that are very high unfortunately…
Posted: March 26, 2024I absolutely adore Montreal. I would recommend accommodation close to transit/train stations as their transit systems are really efficient. Things stay open late but on weekends expect them to wrap up around 3am. I wouldn’t recommend being out alone past that time. Even though it’s still fairly safe, there were still a few unsafe moments as a woman travelling alone. So stick to transit, don’t be out past 2-3am especially alone, and call an Uber if you must!

Hello ! I'm Solène, I'm French and I'm currently on a one-year temporary work visa on Montréal. Before returning to France permanently, I decided to treat myself to a 3 month road trip across Canada and United States. I can't spending 3 months alone, I believe that richness of a trip also comes from meeting people. I would also love to discover hidden places, beyond the tourist spots. Moreover, my english needs improvement, and I think there's no better way to improve it than by immersing myself directly in a country. FRENCH Salut !
