Honestly Montreal is pretty safe. There’s a few neighborhoods that are experiencing increased crime rates post Covid, but those are not usually the areas that would be visited by tourists so I’m not sure that it applies.
Posted: February 13, 2025The best city to go a safe trip! You can work at any hour of any day or night! Strangers are always here to help if something happens , and they are also kind! People really respect you and care for everyone well being
Posted: February 3, 2025Montreal is considered safe because the culture really promotes respect and tolerance. Like any big city people are from everywhere and the mix is really fun. And of course with the fun comes with big events and sometimes things can happen in bigger crowds. And also some neighborhood are targeted sometimes for violence (gang or else). As a woman I can go out whenever I want and dress however but I never push it personally.

I would say Montreal is pretty safe for a big city. There’s for sure measures to take, especially as a women, to stay safe just like in any city. Our public transport system is pretty good and we aslo have Ubers.
Posted: January 30, 2025I live downtown and I find Montreal to be a pretty safe city overall. Walking around at night just be careful as you do, but I rarely worry about being assaulted in any way. During the day is especially fine.

Montreal is a rather safe city. There are a few neighborhoods to avoid to stay safe, but the likeliness of a bad encounter is really low when you stay within the center of the city. I never experienced any bad encounters. I was approached by some men trying to hit on me a few times, but they back off when you tell them you are not interested. There are also a lot of homeless people and/or under the influence of drugs, and even if some might be scary in the first place, it is very unlikely for you to get harmed.
Posted: January 27, 2025In general, I feel Montreal is safe. Like anywhere else you should use your decernment and be safe, but other that it’s a great city. Maybe some places in town walking late at night is not so great. However, I haven’t had any incident personally.

Certain ares are safe than others. In general, people don't really approach you in public during daytime. They approach you more often at night when you are alone and when you're dressed up very nicely. I'm pretty much on the bigger stronger side of women, I feel like it plays a big part in my level of safety and in my chances of being assaulted.
Posted: January 21, 2025It always depends on the neughborhood. If you don’t go to Montréal-Nord and stay close to the metro lines and downtown you’ll be fine. During the day it’s very safe. I never felt like I had to hide my phone.
Posted: January 20, 2025Montreal is safe in most parts and the crime rates are low, but a few spots should be avoided after dark. The locals are friendly and welcoming, so feel free to ask someone for help if you feel unsafe.

I absolutely loved my trip to Montreal. I felt very safe and appreciated how organized and walkable the city was. The bike lanes were fantastic, making it easy to explore sustainably. Montreal’s diverse attractions, beautiful architecture, and environmentally conscious vibe really resonated with me. Plus, the variety of restaurants offered such a rich cultural experience. It’s truly a stunning and inspiring city. Total cost is approximately $1,000.

I’m currently travelling in Montreal, I’m here for a month. I’m having a lot of fun here, it’s really nice and safe place, as a woman I feel very good with the city and walking by myself. The only bad point would be the prices that are very high unfortunately…

Hi! My name is Stéphanie and I'm a 22 years old international student from France, living in Montréal, Canada. I've been travelling with my family for my whole life, and I discovered solo travelling 2 years ago when I went in Australia for work. I've been living in Canada by myself for a year and a half now and got to visit so many new places on my own. I'm looking to connect with new people and get some tips for my next trips 🫶🏻
