Philadelphia, overall, is moderately safe; but it really depends on the neighborhood. I'm not certain that most residential neighborhoods where tourists would frequent. Even areas occupied by AirBnB locations, are fairly safe. However, with all of that said, I wouldn't travel alone in most areas after dark unless you are very familiar. In the event the police need to be called for domestic disturbances, response times can vary greatly. Sometimes, I've personally had to call multiple times and experienced long wait times for an officer to respond for things ranging from hit and run and noise from domestic disputes.

I leave near Philadelphia with my host family. Never had a bad experience there but I also have to say that I’m 6’3. Might intimidated some people. But like any big city always pay attention to your surroundings. The train is super safe ! The subway is to avoid at night or be extra careful. But Philly is full of culture, good food and very welcoming people !
