I feel mostly safe, I don’t have a lot of anxiety over being around potentially unsafe people. However there’s definitely unsafe people in certain areas that I’m aware of. I would recommend the buddy system!

While I can’t speak to the overall crime rate in Columbus as a whole, I can confidently say that the area where I live is very safe. It's a peaceful and quiet neighborhood, and I feel secure here. The community is friendly, and I’ve never had any concerns about safety. Of course, every city has its ups and downs, but my experience in this particular area has been nothing but positive. It’s a place where I feel at ease, and I enjoy the environment I’m in.

Columbus is a very safe city nestled between Indianapolis, Bloomington, Cincinnati, and Louisville. The public transport is pretty much nonexistent because everyone drives. I wouldn’t walk around the east side late at night alone, but any other part is fine. I live on the north side and it’s very safe at any time.

Overall, I would say Columbus is quite safe, but it definitely has areas I wouldn’t go alone. That being said, all of the places you’d be likely to visit as a tourist are safe. It wouldn’t be unusual to be catcalled or accosted by the homeless in short north or parts of downtown at night, but I think that’s true of any American city. I’ve never had a fear for my safety in an uber or at any of the bars I’ve been to. In my neighborhood, I’ve had things in my car taken from my car when I’ve forgotten to lock the doors, so lock your car!

I’ve lived in Columbus my whole life. I’ve lived in North Linden, Dublin, Grandview, Westerville, Victorian Village, and The Short North neighborhoods (a popular tourist attention). The suburbs are generally the safest. Like anywhere.. the closer you get to urban areas, the seedier it can get.

Safety is highly dependent on the neighborhood and although gun violence is relevant I feel on par safety wise as the average US city. The short north has had an uptick in shootings especially around clubs but I feel safe walking around during the day time. The biggest issue for women is probably the sexual harassment as it’s on a college campus.
Posted: March 20, 2024Columbus is as safe as any medium to large city. The daytime is perfectly safe and there are not any particularly “bad” areas of town to avoid. You need a car to get around, so you wouldn’t be stumbling into these parts of town on foot anyways. Women should still keep an eye out for suspicious behavior and aware of their surroundings.

Hi, I'm Jojo! I currently live in Columbus, Ohio, and I love traveling. I’ve done solo trips in the past and absolutely love the freedom of exploring new places on my own. I’m so excited to have found this app, as it’s a great way to connect with locals who can show me around and make my travels even more special.
